Inaugurated in 2019 when the favourite The Inevitable saluted for the punters the Silver Eagle is run over 1300m at set weights plus penalties and is open only to four-year-old horses.
The million-dollar showdown takes place on the same day as the coveted Caulfield Cup Day card in Melbourne.
In 2024 the Silver Eagle took place on The Everest Day headlined by the now Group 1 $20 million The Everest (1200m) and the Group 1 $5 million King Charles III Stakes (1600m) which replaced the George Main Stakes in 2023.
The event serves as the key lead-up into the $10 million The Golden Eagle (1500m) held at Rosehill at the end of October with the Silver Eagle winner, second and third placegetter all gaining a ballot free ride into that race.
The 2021 Silver Eagle form was franked with the third placegetter Count De Rupee running second next-up in that year’s Golden Eagle results before his $1 million The Gong win at Kembla Grange.
In 2023 Vilana won the Silver Eagle before success in the $1 million The Hunter at Newcastle later that spring.
The 2023 Silver Eagle form was firmly franked by the third placed Pericles who ran second next-up in the Golden Eagle quinella before a host of subsequent Group 1 placings including the 2024 Futurity Stakes (2nd), 2024 Doncaster Mile (2nd), and 2024 Underwood Stakes (3rd).
The now Group 3 $1 million 2024 Silver Eagle took place at Randwick on The Everest Day on Saturday October 19, 2024 and was won in an impressive on-speed run by the favourite Sstraka ($4.20F).

2024 Silver Eagle Tips
Stay tuned for our insider Silver Eagle 2024 betting tips and exotic Randwick, spring racing selections on the four-year-olds’ feature.
- To Win: #11 Kimochi ($4.40 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Plenty of varying form lines to consider when doing this year’s Silver Eagle selections but happy to stick with the favourite Kimochi third-up and fit now. Gary Portelli’s Brave Smash mare was third under a half-length off Zougotcha in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic last time in, won the Group 3 Toy Show over 1100m first-up here at Randwick, then travelled south for her latest when fourth in the Group 1 Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes (1200m) at The Valley. That race is proving a very nice one to follow including the runner-up Growing Empire getting his chance in Saturday’s The Everest. Back in Sydney against her own age suits. Drawn wider out but if there’s a soft track that might be okay. Don’t seen an issue with the 1300m either. Can salute.
2024 Silver Eagle Field
The spring’s Silver Eagle field features the best four-year-old horses from Australia heading towards a shot at the lucrative $10 million The Golden Eagle.

The 2024 Silver Eagle final field features a capacity line-up of Golden Eagle-bound four-year-olds led in betting by Kimochi coming off a Group 1 Manikato fourth in Melbourne.

Race comments
OSTRAKA (4) continued where he left off last prep and going quickly through his grades. Chasing his fourth straight win after charging late for a gritty head win over 1200m at this track in BM94 class last start. Drops in weight and can win again despite drawing out. STRETAN ANGEL (12) proven Group 1 performer who stretches out to the 1300m for the first time. Drifted back before returning slick closing splits when third over 1200m in the G2 Gilgai Stakes at Flemington on October 5. Look for her late. VEIGHT (1) total forgive first-up when trapped wide to finish 11th in the G1 Manikato over 1200m at Moonee Valley on September 27. Improver in this contest. WAR MACHINE (10) lightly raced gelding with a ton of upside. First-up after six months sat on the good tempo from the sticky draw when a tenacious second over 1200m at Moonee Valley on September 27. Strips fitter now and he looks one of the leading prospects.
