The Sunshine Coast Guineas – now known as the Winx Guineas in honour of the event’s 2015 champion Winx – is a Group 3 race held annually at Sunshine Coast Racecourse. The Sunshine Coast Guineas brings up the tail end of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival and represents some of the last black-type racing in Queensland before the break for the winter.
The Winx Guineas is traditionally held on Caloundra Cup Day, alongside the Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) and the Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m).
Offering $300,000 in prize money as of 2023, the Winx Guineas is a mile event raced over 1600m. Entrants tend to be the three-year-old horses at the end of their winter campaign looking to collect one last black-type trophy before resting for the winter.
The Group 2 Queensland Guineas held at Eagle Farm is considered a solid lead up race, along with the Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes (1400m).
In 2020 the Sunshine Coast Guineas was renamed the Winx Guineas in honour of the 2015 champion Winx who went on to become the sole four-time Cox Plate champion in history.
The 2020 Winx Guineas also ran as the feature race at Caloundra without a 2020 edition of the Caloundra Cup taking place due to COVID-19 and a number of restrictions and reductions to the entire Queensland Winter Racing Carnival. It was also worth a reduced $125,000 in prize money before enjoying a prize money boost the following season.
The 2023 Winx Guineas form was franked the following winter with the winner, Knight’s Choice, running a nice second in the 2024 Group 2 $1.2 million The Q22 in Brisbane.
The 2026 Winx Guineas ran on Saturday July 4, 2026 at the Sunshine Coast in Queensland on Caloundra Cup Day and was won in a barnstorming finish by the progressive Tom Charlton-trained Cellarmaster ($5.50).

2026 Winx Guineas Form
The Winx Guineas form guide is the punter’s roadmap to understanding which three-year-olds are ready to peak over the Sunshine Coast mile, how they map, and which runners bring the right blend of class, tempo suitability and late-season improvement. Because the Winx Guineas regularly attracts progressive milers on the rise, Queensland winter stars and sharp interstate raiders, the form guide becomes essential for anyone chasing the best Winx Guineas odds, confident Winx Guineas tips, a clear read on the Winx Guineas field, and insight into how the race is likely to unfold.
What the Winx Guineas Form Guide Shows:
- Mile strength — Horses proven at 1600m or showing strong late splits at 1400m are ideal.
- Track suitability — Corbould Park’s long straight rewards sustained momentum and genuine finishers.
- Tempo profile — Understanding leaders, on-pacers and swoopers is crucial in a race often run at a genuine clip.
- Winter progression — Many runners improve deep into their prep; late-season fitness matters.
- Stable intent — Top Queensland and interstate yards often target this race deliberately.
What Punters Should Look for on the Winx Guineas Form Guide:
- Sectional strength — Horses running fast last 600m splits in lead-ups often peak here.
- Straight-track finish — The long run home suits horses who build and sustain speed.
- Barrier impact — Middle gates often map best; wide draws can still win with momentum.
- Form lines — Look for runners coming through strong Queensland winter races.
- Market signals — Early Winx Guineas odds shifts often reveal stable confidence.

To Win: No. 10 Within The Law
WITHIN THE LAW (10) backs up quickly and profiles as the runner to beat, arriving rock-hard fit and well placed to deliver as favourite. The Bjorn Baker-trained daughter of Lucky Vega was excellent against the older mares in the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara, finishing seventh but making strong late ground behind Splash Back. The margin was just over three lengths, and her closing work suggested she’s ready to peak dropping back in grade. She now returns to her own age group and rises to the mile — a trip she’s proven highly effective at. While she hasn’t yet won beyond 1200m, her four starts at 1600m have produced three runner-up finishes, including elite-level placings in both the Group 1 Champagne Stakes and Group 1 Flight Stakes. That form reads exceptionally well for a race of this depth. A slight dip in the weights helps her cause, and she draws to enjoy a more economical run than she did last weekend, where she was snagged right out the back in a race that never suited. She’s long shown genuine talent — winning the 2024 Inglis Banner on debut and claiming the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes last March — and her consistency at the top level indicates she’s ready to strike again. Dylan Gibbons takes the reins and will need to get the timing right, but if he can have her within range turning for home, she’s the type who can quicken sharply, put them away, and handle any rain-affected conditions.

The Sunshine Coast Guineas ran as a listed race for the last time in 2012, as it was upgraded to Group 3 shortly after and ran as such for the 2013 edition. Prior to 2006, the race was unlisted; improving fields and its standing as a decent mile event led to the decision to upgrade its standing.

In 2020 the Sunshine Coast Guineas was renamed the Winx Guineas to honour the 2015 winning filly Winx who went on to make history over her brilliant career that included a record four Cox Plate victories.
