A one-million-dollar showdown, the Golden Gift race was inaugurated in 2015 and is run at set weights by a field of two-year-old hopefuls.

Contested over 1100m, the event currently takes place in Sydney on the same day Melbourne hosts Champion Stakes Day at Flemington on the Saturday after the Melbourne Cup each year.

The Golden Gift now runs on Five Diamonds Day. Racing at the meeting is headlined by the Listed $2 million The Five Diamonds (1800m) for five-year-olds with the Group 2 $500,000 Hot Danish Stakes (1400m) the other feature on the card.

The Golden Gift makes a nice spring target for juveniles eyeing a return the following autumn for a campaign aimed at the Group 1 $5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m).

Fillies have dominated the Golden Gift results to date with five of the seven winners from 2015-2022 being fillies.

In 2024 the Golden Gift gained Group 3 status.

The next edition of the now Group 3 $1 million Golden Gift runs on Saturday November 8, 2025 at Rosehill Gardens on the same day as Melbourne’s Champions Stakes Day at Flemington.

2025 Golden Gift Field

The confirmed Golden Gift 2025 field of two-year-old contenders is announced on the Wednesday of race week and will be published in full below.

A potential lead-up race into the Golden Gift field is the Group 3 Breeders Plate (1000m) run at Randwick in October. Sejardan (2021) was the last two-year-old to complete the Breeders Plate – Golden Gift double.
