Small field and open race without any real stand-outs class or form wise. Going for the Waller-trained Roots to improve and return to winning form here with some runs against some decent horses this prep. She’ll get things her way from barrier two with Tommy Berry in the saddle of the Press Statement five-year-old who has a decent record at the track. Was Group 1 placed when narrowly defeated at big odds in Brisbane’s Tatt’s Tiara in the winter. $1.5 million Alan Brown fifth fresh had her only a length beaten and that form was franked in Sydney’s $3 million The Big Dance on Cup Day with both the winner and runner-up coming out of it. Roots was last seen unplaced when second last (11th) to her stablemate Espiona in the $2 million The Invitation. Had more weight there and expect her to atone.
The official Hot Danish Stakes 2023 field and barriers are announced by Racing NSW on the Wednesday of race week and will be updated below.
The runners in the field may come via a number of different lead-up races including the $2 million The Invitation (1400m) at Randwick a fortnight earlier.
Sheeza Belta (8th in 2022) and Roots (11t in 2023) are the latest Hot Danish Stakes winners to come via The Invitation.
The 2023 Hot Danish Stakes final field features a small but quality line-up of mares led in betting by the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Royal Merchant who won the Group 1 The Goodwood in Adelaide earlier in the year.
