The latest edition of the world’s richest race for two-year-olds has been snared by a Victorian visitor with Guest House saluting for Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr to claim an upset Golden Slipper 2026 win in his maiden Sydney performance.

A one-time favourite earlier in the season for this year’s Group 1 $5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) having won his debut at Cranbourne last December, subsequent back-to-back losses in the lead-up at Caulfield had the progressive Home Affairs colt out to $11 come jump time at Rosehill for the big one.
While few Slipper champs in the past decade or so have come via a non-Sydney lead-up, Guest House handled the other way of racing aplomb improving on his Blue Diamond third to race his way into the history books.
The Blue Diamond form from down south was further franked in today’s Golden Slipper results with the winning filly, Streisand ($7.50), running 1.37 lengths back second to Guest House with the colt able to turn the tables.
Gratz Vella’s flying Group 3 Black Opal winner Music Time meanwhile ran out of his skin at 40/1 to complete the Golden Slipper trifecta under two lengths off the winner.
“He’s had three runs where nothing went right. With the speed on, he finally relaxed. Zac Lloyd, what can I say, he read the pattern, and the horse was so good,” co-trainer Michael Kent Jnr told Sky Thoroughbred Central.
“It’s so right for Mick (Price, to land his first Golden Slipper).
“I’m so lucky I work with Mick. He’s had so many close calls in this race. He’s a great two-year-old trainer. Himself and Timmy Rogers found the horse.
“I’m very excited. I’m rapt for Mick Price. He gave me a big show in this game and I’m very lucky. And credit to all our staff back at home. A lot of work goes into these good colts.
“And what a horse. He won by a big margin, going away, so fantastic.
“That’s very good isn’t it. What a feeling.”
Jockey Zac Lloyd landed a career defining victory aboard Guest House rating the eventual champ to perfection in the run.
Settled back and still with ground to make up approaching the turn, Lloyd was patiently waiting to make his move as Closer To Free led them into the straight.
When the gap appeared inside the final furlong, Lloyd struck and burst through to charge clear and surge to the front with Guest House drawing away late to deny Streisand, who stuck right to the inside rail, her Group 1 interstate double.
“Yeah, it was high pressure, but my colt, he was fantastic,” Lloyd said.
“He’s obviously a very good Home Affairs’ colt. He broke on terms. He’s been a bit tricky in his mannerisms, but today he was very attractable.
“I got on the back of the best jockey in the world and I thought, ‘Here we go, we’ll go from here.’
“And I just quickened that well. I was just waiting for a run, but geez, he let down so well.
“So I’m very happy. I’m so pleased for the big ownership and Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr and Ben Elam, who works here in Sydney.”
“Behind the gates is the peaceful part. It’s so quiet. You come from here where you’re talking to so many owners – very up and about. You’ve got to try to stay calm, keep your horse calm. Behind the gates is the easy thing, everyone’s quiet.”
“As soon as those gates open, it’s like nothing I’ve ever ridden before – It’s so quick, so tight. I was very happy to find the fence because that just allows the horses to just relax.
“They get a bit of comfort by the fence and then you just trust you’ve got the right horse to take the runs. I certainly did so yeah, very, very, very happy.”
