*In 2026 the event ran at Caulfield with The Valley undergoing a major redevelopment.

The progressive Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Blue Point filly Point Barrow ($2.80F) atoned for her fifth in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate bouncing back well to produce a huge final 200m sectional and salute for the punters by a length in the 2026 Don Casboult Classic results. She could now be Adelaide-bound for a shot at the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes on April 25.

In 2024 the race was renamed the Don Casboult Classic in honour of the former Moonee Valley Racing Club chairman.
A sprint race contested over 1200m at set weights plus penalties, the Don Casboult Classic (Typhoon Tracy Stakes) offers $200,000 in prize money. Fillies in the Typhoon Tracy Stakes field may come off an earlier autumn run and target later features including South Australia’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in May.
One good lead-up race into the Typhoon Tracy Stakes is the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) run at Caulfield on CF Orr Stakes Day, and in 2015 Royal Snitzel ran second in both races. In 2018 Tulip improved on a lead-up fourth in the Kevin Hayes to win the Typhoon Tracy Stakes.
In 2023 the Typhoon Tracy Stakes form was franked with the runner-up Wee Nessy running second next-up in the Group 2 $1 million Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) in Sydney. The third placed Lady Laguna meanwhile ran third in the Arrowfield before returning in 2024 to dominate her summer – autumn campaign with a host of victories including in the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares race at the Gold Coast and Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).
The Typhoon Tracy Stakes 2026 ran on Saturday March 21, 2026 as the Don Casboult Classic on William Reid Stakes Day at Caulfield (Moonee Valley closed for redevelopment) and saw the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained filly Point Barrow ($2.80F) produced a huge final furlong to salute for the punters by a length.Â

POINT BARROW (3) is the well-drawn favourite for this, and I think she’ll be winning for the punters. The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Blue Point filly has won four from seven to date and is really starting to live up to her pedigree. She went back-to-back last prep with her spring campaign rounded out by a Group 3 Red Roses victory from the outside alley at HQ before being thrown into the deep end fresh at Caulfield. She went straight to Group 1 company taking on the season’s top sprinters in the Oakleigh Plate with no weight and ran out of her skin for an okay fifth place effort as the beaten favourite. Back in grade now against her own kind and she can refind her winning form despite rising notably in weight. Needs a touch of luck to find a spot towards the tail but she’ll be there when it counts getting conditions to suit.

Typhoon Tracy Stakes / Don Casboult Classic History
The Don Casboult Classic (Typhoon Tracy Stakes), conducted by the Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC), is one of the youngest Group races held in Melbourne having first run in 2011 when Miss Gai Flyer won the inaugural edition. It started out as a Listed race before gaining its current Group 3 status in 2014.
The race was formerly named in honour of former star mare Typhoon Tracy who won a host of Group 1 races including the CF Or Stakes – Futurity Stakes double, the Group 3 has been won by the likes of Norzita (2013) and Almighty Girl (2016). The 2016 Typhoon Tracy Results also saw two smart mares emerge with Secret Agenda (2nd) and Super Cash (3rd) going on to win bigger and better races.
The event was moved from February to March in 2023 to join the latest edition of the then $5 million The All-Star Mile race which returned to Moonee Valley having first run at the course in 2021.
The Typhoon Tracy Stakes was renamed the Don Casboult Classic in 2024 and moved to William Reid Stakes Day in late March.
In 2026 it ran at Caulfield with Moonee Valley under redevelopment.
