Chris Waller‘s gun three-year-old Beiwacht secured his second Group 1 success with last year’s Golden Rose champ leading from barrier to box to upset his older rivals in Saturday’s All Aged Stakes 2026 results.

The final elite level of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, the Group 1 $1.5 million All Aged Stakes (1400m) drew a star-studded field, and it was Waller’s progressive young Bivouac colt who finished on top leading all-the-way.
“He’s a very special horse,” Waller told Sky Thoroughbred Central post-victory.
“He did it in the Golden Rose as well and broke the Rosehill track record.
“He’s a pretty talented young colt.
“So, to beat the older horses, and this year’s All Aged Stakes I think, like the rest of the carnival, it’s a very special field, it’s good horses.
“He gets the accolades today.”
Ideally rated by Nash Rawiller who came aboard the up-and-comer for the first time in the day’s feature, Beiwacht ($6.50) jumped cleanly from his favourable barrier two draw to land in front and never relinquished his lead.
“He just travelled beautifully and he ran the sectionals and kicked off that,” Rawiller, who won the All Aged for the first time since his 2014 success on the Japanese-bred mare Hana’s Goal, said.
“You know what It’s like when you’re on a really good horse and you know you’re home.
“I just love the way he lengthened stride again when I asked him.
“I was just happy to enjoy it.”
Fourth-up and fit, he relished a slight distance drop improving on his lead-up sixth to his then undefeated stablemate Autumn Glow in Rosehill’s Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) on Slipper Day.
In a masterful performance, Beiwacht was the only on-pace runner to finish in the money.
Having set the pace from the start, far from tiering the colt gave a lovely kick inside the final 200m to hold a two-length lead before the runners from the back began their runs in earnest.
Never looking like losing, Beiwacht easily accounted for the field and still had 0.92 lengths to spare on the line over his fast-finishing stablemate, Coolmore Classic winning mare Lazzura ($15), who flashed into a photo for second over the Ciaron Maher-trained Jimmysstar ($5.50) who came right down the outside to place third in his failed title defence.
“Really good run,” jockey Jason Collett said of the runner-up.
“Had the gate and was able to get into the right spot.
“Split came late to run a Group 1 placing. Very good.”
Beiwacht has gone from strength-to-strength this prep improving hugely on his dead last fresh when eighth in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at HQ and going one better than second at his next in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) behind Joliestar.
“I think he didn’t like running down the straight, so we needed to find a stallion-making race that really stamps his authority, and this race stuck out,” Waller said.
“He ran well on the George Ryder, it was a softish track that day and today, back on a good track, he was terrific.
“Even his run behind Joliestar, that showed that he was right up there with the best older horses.
“Very exciting.”
As for a potential step-up in trip, Waller said that would be up to the Godolphin team.
“Ask Godolphin that,” the master horseman said.
“We like Everest and those types of races, we’re lucky to be training these colts but I respect they’ve got big values so see what they come up with.
“He’s got a great attitude, I’ve got a great team behind me that help get colts like this to the races because it’s not an easy task.
“My team at home do me proud.”
Rawiller’s assessment was that today’s All Aged Stakes winner would be most effective being kept within the sprint range for the time being as the horse continues to mature.
“I wouldn’t put it beyond Chris (to step him up in trip),” he said.
“He’s probably have him for a Melbourne Cup two years’ time or something.
“Look, he’s just a really highly talented, let’s say he’s a sprinter-miler, but at this stage I wouldn’t be rushing to get there.
“I think there’s plenty of 1400m and 1200m races he could be winning before then.”
Waller also said there were options galore no matter what distance they decided on.
“There’s lots of options, isn’t there? That’s the beauty of racing in Australia and Sydney racing,” he said.
“We’re just so lucky to be racing in this era.”
The trainer was also quick to credit the huge run at big odds by the stable’s second placed mare Lazzura.
“She was awesome. She might get on the plane too (for the UK). She was a star,” he said.
