Ciaron Maher‘s talented sprinter, Jimmysstaar, is Brisbane-bound on Saturday set to line-up favourite for his Doomben debut in the 2026 Ladbrokes Doomben 10,000 as we welcome in Group 1 racing for the winter in the sunshine state.

The first of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival elite levels lights up the Doomben track this weekend with a capacity line-up set to contest the Group 1 $1.5 million Ladbrokes Doomben 10,000 (1200m).
Peter Snowden‘s first emergency, the rails-drawn Snitzel colt Beadman ($9.50), has gained a spot in the starting line-up looking for back-to-back wins off his Gold Coast Guineas success following the early scratching of Lady Of Camelot.
All eyes however are on the horse set to don the No. 1 saddlecloth with Jimmysstar heading Doomben 10,000 betting at $3.20 through race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au.
Favourites in the Doomben 10,000 odds have a strong record in the past decade with nine saluting for the punters from 2007 – 2025 including last year’s champion Sunshine In Paris ($3.30).
Saturday marks the Per Incanto six-year-old’s maiden Doomben assignment but the punters are happy for him to handle the unknown circuit following a couple of good interstate runs over the autumn.
Winner of the Russell Balding Stakes / CF Orr Stakes double at short odds last November, the Kiwi-bred galloper was last seen racing out of his skin for a brave third under a length beaten at Randwick in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) on April 18.
He’s been kept fresh with a month between runs ahead of his latest Group 1 assignment which sees him drop back to the six furlongs – a distance he boasts a solid enough record over (7:1-1-2).
Regular rider Ethan Brown continues associations on the $8.57 million earner from barrier 11 (into 10), Jimmysstar gets conditions to suit with a Soft rated track, and he presents rock-hard fit fourth-up looking for his first 2026 victory.
The danger at Doomben 10,000 odds of $5.50 and firming is the early market mover Private Eye from Joe Pride‘s Warwick Farm base.
A former Epsom Handicap champ and dual The Everest placegetter, the now eight-year-old might not be at his career peak, but he remains capable of a big race against these rivals.
He remains winless since taking out Caulfield’s Group 3 Moonga Stakes last October, but he showed plenty of fight fresh last start with improvement pending.
Resuming, Private Eye was beaten under a half-length when third to Mazu in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes on All Aged Day.
Having won a couple of times second-up in the past, this is a tougher race, but he is better suited to the WFA conditions, and he’s drawn a dream in gate three with Nash Rawiller sticking with.
His only other Doomben assignment produced a close fourth behind Bella Nipotina in this same event back in 2024, so we know he handles the track, and it’s easy to see why the money is coming for this excellent wet tracker with the skies opening up over Brisbane this week.
In an open market, a host of the other final acceptors can also currently be found under $10 for the win including the talented and ultra-consistent Grafterburners ($6) who looks a genuine Each Way shot.
Kelly Schweida‘s Graff colt is out to upset his older rivals and become the first three-year-old Doomben 10,000 winner since Giga Kick in 2023.
A gun at the 1200m (7:4-1-2), this up-and-coming sprinter was on fire last prep stringing together four wins on the trot in easier company.
Fresh this time in he caught the eye at Randwick on Day 2 of The Championships when finishing 1.8 lengths third to a very good filly, Tempted, in the Group 2 Arrowfield.
He’s been kept fit since with a subsequent Doomben trial, has an imposing two-from-three second-up record, will relish a return to Queensland now and benefits from the booking Zac Purton from a favourable alley.
Other single-figure fancies getting love from the punters ahead of Saturday’s feature include Tom Charlton‘s second emergency Napoleonic ($7) sweating on a start with the master James McDonald lying in wait of the ride and Team Hawkes‘ former star juvenile Devil Night ($9).
Extreme Choice colt Devil Night has won just one of his nine starts to date when scoring a narrow upset in last year’s Blue Diamond Stakes.
His form this prep has been outstanding with a shock second to Jigsaw at triple figures in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) only a half-length off the subsequent The Quokka champ and a last start second in the Arrowfield.
Those are some superior form lines to follow up to Queensland now and he’s one of the standout potential value plays on the card.
The 2026 Ladbrokes Doomben 10,000 is set to run as Doomben Race 8 at 4:02pm (AEST) as the penultimate event on Saturday’s nine-race card.
