The Golden Gift race is a Special Conditions feature for 2YOs offering $1 million in prize money and run at Rosehill on the Saturday after the Melbourne Cup.
The Golden Gift is a Sydney Spring Racing Carnival feature run in early to mid-November at Rosehill Gardens.
A one million dollar showdown, the Golden Gift race was inaugurated in 2015 and is run at set weights by a field of two-year-old hopefuls.
Contested over 1100m, the event currently takes place in Sydney on the same day Melbourne hosts Champion Stakes Day at Flemington on the Saturday after the Melbourne Cup each year.
In 2023 the Golden Gift runs on Five Diamonds Day. Racing at the meeting is headlined by the $2 million The Five Diamonds (1800m) for five-year-olds with the Group 2 $500,000 Hot Danish Stakes (1400m) the other feature on the card.
The Golden Gift makes a nice spring target for juveniles eyeing a return the following autumn for a campaign aimed at the Group 1 $5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m).
Fillies have dominated the Golden Gift results to date with five of the seven winners from 2015-2022 being fillies.
The latest edition of the $1 million Golden Gift ran on Saturday November 11, 2023 at Rosehill Gardens on the same day as Melbourne’s Champions Stakes Day at Flemington and was won by the speedy Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained colt Shangri La Express ($2.10F).

Shangri La Express ($2.10 in 2023) became the first Golden Gift favourite to salute for the punters.
Stay tuned for our exclusive Golden Gift 2023 Tips on the million-dollar race for two-year-olds this November.
Tough race for punters with plenty on debut, most maidens, and not much form to consider in the lucrative 2YOs showdown. Going for a touch of value with Betta Being Single from a top stable. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained Better Than Ready filly is nicely-bred and has her second start after going down the barest of margins on debut at Kensington. Drops weight, extra 100m should suit and Rachel King is riding very well. Out to atone after going down as the beaten favourite last time and can make amends.
The confirmed Golden Gift 2023 field of two-year-old contenders is announced on Wednesday November 8th, 2023 and will be published in full below.
A potential lead-up race into the Golden Gift field is the Group 3 Breeders Plate (1000m) run at Randwick in October. Sejardan (2021) was the last two-year-old to complete the Breeders Plate – Golden Gift double.
The 2023 Golden Gift final field features a bumper line-up of promising two-year-olds including the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained colt Shangri La Express who is the only non-maiden in the mix after a big 2.5 length win on debut at Randwick last month in the Kirkham Plate over 1000m.
