The official The Golden Eagle 2026 field and barriers have been confirmed with a star-studded line-up of the season’s best four-year-olds facing off at Royal Randwick for the eighth edition of the $10 million feature.

First run in 2019, the Group 1 Golden Eagle (1500m) is fast becoming one of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival‘s key targets for top-tier four-year-olds, and this year’s line-up is elite.

The latest Golden Eagle 2026 odds at Ladbrokes are firmly led by longtime favourite Sheza Alibi with the gun Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained Saxon Warrior mare now into $1.85 to return to winning form.

An eight-time winner from 13 starts, she was one of last season’s premier fillies completing Sydney’s Randwick Guineas – Doncaster Mile double in the autumn before adding a third Group 1 to her glowing CV second-up this prep at Flemington in the Makybe Diva Stakes.

With form around Autumn Glow, Sheza Alibi was last seen running second to shock 60/1 winner Land Legend in Caulfield’s Group 1 Might And Power (2000m) narrowly denied as the beaten odds-on fancy.

Dropping back to her preferred trip and returning to Randwick, which has been a very happy hunting ground for the $4.5 million earner, she looks hard to deny rock hard fit and into barrier five with Luke Nolen continuing associations.

Sheza Alibi is heavily backed to join Colette (2020) and Autumn Glow (2025) as the only Golden Eagle winning mares!

Despite the size of the field, Sheza Alibi’s stranglehold on the markets sees just two of her Golden Eagle rivals under double figures for an upset with the Chris Waller-trained duo of Beiwacht ($7.50) and Autumn Boy ($9) considered the dangers.

Waller is the only trainer to date to prepare two Golden Eagle winners having claimed the inaugural edition with Kolding before his victory by subsequent superstar Autumn Glow last year.

Beiwacht looms as a genuine hope to hand his master trainer a third victory with the valuable Bivouac entire also a triple elite level champ after his three-length Memsie Stakes romp home fresh in late August.

He’s had two runs since, the latest of which saw last year’s Golden Rose winner finish third under a length beaten in the Silver Eagle.

Beiwacht will jump from gate nine on Saturday, while stablemate Autumn Boy is in gate four.

Winner of the Rosehill Guineas back in March, the son of The Autumn Sun followed Sheza Alibi over the line for second in the Makybe Diva before a disappointing midfield finish at his latest in the Epsom which he’s out to atone for this weekend.

Waller also saddles-up 1001/ roughie Estremo and the early Golden Eagle market mover Mr Miller who has been backed in from $31 to $23.

Barrier 8 has produced the past two Golden Eagle champions and the Kiwi-bred Mr Miller, fifth in the Epsom Handicap in a run full of merit, comes into that gate with the early withdrawal of the originally rails-drawn Barrengarry.

The other major player at a current quote of $11 is the Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou-trained Skyhook who looks the value even from his tricky gate 14 draw.

An ultra-consistent son of Written Tycoon, he was a back-to-back Group 2 winner first and second up this spring in the Theo Marks and Shannon Stakes, the latter by a big three-length margin, before his winning streak came to an end when second to Apocalyptic in the Silver Eagle in a brave run when chasing the speed.

The upset Silver Eagle winning mare Apocalyptic is also lining up in her grand final this Saturday against a similar field to that which she defeated here at 25/1 on The Everest Day.

Michael Freedman‘s Extreme Choice mare is now out to complete the Silver Eagle – Golden Eagle double at her pet Randwick track (8:4-2-1) but her and jockey Tommy Berry have a tough task from the extreme outside alley with the pace likely to be hot with Beiwacht and Skyhook the expected leaders explaining her generous $21 odds.

The 2026 Golden Eagle is set to run as Randwick Race 8 at 4:45pm (AEDT) on Saturday’s 10-race card in Sydney.
