With total prize money of $300,000, the Sheraco Stakes is a nice Sydney Spring Racing Carnival kick-off for sprinting fillies and mares and is usually targeted by most major Sydney trainers. Open only to fillies and mares and run under set weights with penalties conditions, this is a great race for form guide to follow into later spring features.
Some of the better three-year-old fillies in the Sheraco Stakes might choose to step up in class and distance and contend the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m), while the lucrative Group 2 Golden Pendant later in the month is another likely aim. Mizzy (2019) was the last mare to win the Sheraco Stakes – Golden Pendant racing double.
The best mares out of the Sheraco Stakes results each spring could eventually end up in Melbourne on Victoria Derby Day at Flemington running in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) over the mile, a race the 2014 Sheraco Stakes winner Catkins ran third to Bonaria in. Catkins also returned and went back-to-back winning the 2016 Sheraco Stakes.
In 2020 the Sheraco Stakes winner Haut Brion Her went on to run second in that season’s $1 million Winners Stakes (now Russell Balding Stakes).
The 2021 Sheraco Stakes form was franked with the winner Entriviere running third in the Golden Pendant and fourth in the The Invitation before heading back across the Tasman for a Group 1 NZ Railway Stakes victory the following January.
The 2022 Sheraco Stakes winner Shades Of Rose went on to contest that year’s The Everest race – now worth $20 million – finishing eighth in the world’s richest turf race.
The 2023 Sheraco Stakes winner Sunshine In Paris returned in the autumn of 2024 to run a next-up second in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m). The Sheraco form from 2023 was further franked with the runner-up, Espiona, winning the Group 2 Golden Pendant next start as well as that year’s $2 million The Invitation.
Sunshine In Paris went back-to-back in the 2024 Sheraco Stakes when successfully defending her title. She would go on to frank the form with two subsequent Group 1 victories in the Champions Sprint at Flemington that spring and the 2025 Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane the next winter.
The 2024 Sheraco Stakes form was further franked by the third placed Joliestar who returned in 2025 to win Flemington’s Newmarket Handicap and Brisbane’s Kingsford Smith Cup at the highest level.
The 2025 Sheraco Stakes ran on Saturday September 13, 2025 at Rosehill Gardens and was won in an eye-catching upset by the Michael Freedman trained Manaal ($11) who showed sharp improvement second-up ahead of tougher spring assignments.Â

- To Win: #2 Joliestar ($2.15 at time of publish) – BET NOW
JOLIESTAR (7) heads the market for Saturday’s Sheraco Stakes at $2.15, and it’s easy to see why. The classy daughter of Zoustar was third in this race last year behind Sunshine In Paris, and she’s gone to another level since. She’s now a triple Group 1 winner, having claimed the Newmarket Handicap down the Flemington straight and the Kingsford-Smith Cup over 1300m in Brisbane during the winter adding to her 2023 Thousand Guineas success as a three-year-old. Her narrow win at Eagle Farm on June 7 showed her fighting spirit, and she returns fresh against her own sex with a strong 50% winning strike rate over 1200m (8:4-0-2). Chris Waller has already won the Sheraco four times, most recently with Haut Brion Her in 2020, and there’s strong support for Joliestar, his $4.5 million earner, to deliver him a fifth victory in the race. She’s well-placed, well-backed, and clearly the one to beat.
2025 Sheraco Stakes Field

Sheraco Stakes History
The Sheraco Stakes is named after the winner of the 1982 Australian Oaks and all-round successful filly Sheraco.
Patou took out the inaugural edition of the Sheraco Stakes in 1998. Since then, a number of impressive horses have filled out the Sheraco Stakes each year, making this a race always worth punting on. Following only two years in existence, the quality of the field and the need for another black-type race for fillies and mares ensured that the Sheraco Stakes was quickly upgraded to Listed status (in 2000). In 2013, the Sheraco Stakes was again upgraded and is now a Group 2 event.
Initially run over 1100m, with the upgrade came an increase in distance to 1200m. The Sheraco Stakes has also been known by the sponsored name “Winning Edge Presentation Stakes”.
The Sheraco Stakes was later boosted to a Group 2 event for the first time in 2018.
Notable Sheraco Stakes winners include Nanny Maroon (2001), Mimi Lebrock (2008), More Joyous (2010, 2012), Driefontein (2013), Entriviere (2021), and Sunshine In Paris (2024).
Sunshine In Paris (2023-24) is the latest two-time Sheraco Stakes winner.
Sheraco Stakes results since 2000 are below.
The 2021 Sheraco Stakes ran at Kembla Grange due to COVID-19 restrictions.
