The Rose Of Kingston Stakes is a set weights and penalties race and was formerly known as the Blazer Stakes. Offering $300,000 in prize money, the race takes place on Turnbull Stakes Day which also includes the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m), Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m), Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m), Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m), and Group 3 The Bart Cummings (2500m).
Open only to mares aged four-years-old and above, the Rose Of Kingston Stakes attracts a quality line-up each season with many of the runners heading towards the following month’s Group 1 Empire Rose Classic (1600m) back at the track over the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
The 2020 Rose Of Kingston Stakes winner Sierra Sue went on to frank the form winning the following year’s Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield.
The 2022 Rose Of Kingston Stakes form was franked with the winner Excelida going on to run third in that year’s Empire Rose Stakes results.

Blazer Stakes / Rose Of Kingston Stakes History
Previously known as the Honda Prelude, Hardy Brothers Prelude, Jayco Stakes, and the Rose Of Kingston Stakes. The race was renamed the Blazer Stakes in 2009.
It underwent a further name chance in 2019 and has since been known as the Rose Of Kingston Stakes.
Since 1989 the event has been won by a number of class mares including Cats Whisker (2009) who came off a lead-up win in the Let’s Elope Stakes and Mosheen (2012) who had won the 2011 VRC Oaks.
