Tentyris pulled off an enormous effort in the opening Group 1 race on Derby Day at Flemington saluting for the punters by over two lengths in the 2025 Coolmore Stud Stakes results to hand hoop of the hour Mark Zahra a treble.

Following his wins in the Wakeful on Oaks-bound Getta Good Feeling and The Damien Oliver on Warnie, Zahra produced another effortless ride to claim victory in the Group 2 $2 million Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) aboard the heavily backed son of Street Boss.

Having progressed beautifully through the grades this season, the flying Anthony & Sam Freedman trained three-year-old came off an impressive Listed Gothic Stakes victory and proved far too good for his rivals up in grade down the Flemington ‘Straight Six’.

Tentyris has firmed right into $4 to back-up and win next Saturday's Champions Sprint!

“I came today, really only to support Sam,” co-trainer Anthony Freedman told Racing.com speaking about being trackside in Melbourne for Derby Day.

“He’s been here all spring, and we really haven’t had, what you would call, a great spring.

“This was the horse we had so much faith in and he prepared him perfectly.

“I just wanted to be here and sit in the background and say well done.

“Credit to the horse, Godolphin, obviously great supporters and our staff have done a great job.”

With 200m to go, Zahra came with a weaving late run on Tentyris ($2.90F) who exploded through, hit the lead and raced away for emphatic 2.25 length romp home in the sprint feature.

“Anthony said don’t panic, just trust the horse,” Zahra said.

“He was right and I just trusted the horse. I got on the back of Beiweicht and that other Snowden horse (Racing Force).

“The way he improves each start and the further the race went, the more he came up underneath me.

“He let rip when I first let go and then he thought ‘where am I’ and he started to stargaze.

“He’s a very good colt and what a win”

Running on for a distant second was John McArdle’s grey filly My Gladiola with Legacy Bound third to complete the Coolmore Stud Stakes trifecta.

“Really proud of her,” jockey Jamie Mott said of the runner-up.

“Obviously disappointed not to win. Super proud of her and she’s run a really good race.

“The winner was just too sharp when he showed his acceleration, but she was really strong late and couldn’t be more proud of her.”

The win was Zahra’s first in the event since his 2017 victory on Merchant Navy.

Freedman said there was a chance Tentyris would return to HQ on Stakes Day to back-up and take on the older sprinters in the Group 1 $3 million Champions Sprint (1200m) at the same track and trip.

“We’ll see, we’ll definitely look into it,” he said.

“We’ve said that from day dot. If he has a good three-or-four days, there’s no reason why he will not turn up next week.

“I think he’s very good. Today was dominant, he didn’t have all the favours but when produced showed an electric turn of foot.

“We may run next Saturday, we’ll see how he does, but he’s a very big tough colt.”

Following the Coolmore Stud Stakes results, Tentyris has firmed in from $15 into $4 in all-in 2025 Champions Sprint betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.

No three-year-old has won the Champions Sprint since Pharein in right back in 1999.
