2025 VRC Oaks Favourite Gives Punters a Good Feeling Winning the Wakeful Stakes

• Punters Getta Good Feeling About VRC Oaks Bound Edward Manifold Winner

The Edward Manifold Stakes is a Group 2 event for three-year-old fillies named after a committeeman of the Victorian Racing Club (VRC). Held on the same day as the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m), the set-weights race is a 1600m mile race run at Flemington Racecourse in early October as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

Danny O’Brien’s So You Think filly Getta Good Feeling ($17) got through late in a blistering run to break her maiden status with a narrow victory over the front-running Just A Journey in a thrilling 2025 Edward Manifold Stakes result over the Flemington mile on Turnbull Stakes Day to firm from $101 right into $8 in all-in betting on the Group 1 Thousand Guineas.

Regarded as an ideal lead up race to the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) held later that month, many of the race’s winners will also go on to the Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on the Thursday after the Melbourne Cup in November, a double achieved by Mosheen in 2011.

Zardozi (2023) was the last filly to complete the Edward Manifold Stakes – VRC Oaks double.

Amphitrite (2018) was the last filly to complete the Edward Manifold Stakes – Thousand Guineas double.

The following year, the 2019 Edward Manifold Stakes winner Moonlight Maid went on to run third in the VRC Oaks results where Miami Bound improved on her Edward Manifold Stakes third to salute in the Group 1.

The 2021 Edward Manifold Stakes form was franked with the winner Elusive Express backing-up to run second in that year’s Thousand Guineas results before a VRC Oaks fourth. Yearning meanwhile improved on her Edward Manifold Stakes second to win the Thousand Guineas next start.

The form was further franked by the 2021 Edward Manifold third-placed Glint Of Hope who returned in the autumn of 2022 to win Adelaide’s Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m).

The 2022 Edward Manifold Stakes winner She’s Licketysplit ran third next-up in that year’s Thousand Guineas results.

This season the Edward Manifold Stakes 2025 ran on Saturday October 4, 2025 at Flemington Racecourse as a lead-up to the VRC Oaks over the Melbourne Cup Carnival and was won in a thrilling late run up the middle by the progressive Danny O’Brien trained Getta Good Feeling ($17).

Nick Olive’s Tagaloa filly is three-from-six to date and is looking to return to winning form and take out a race as a 3YO for the first time. Her juvenile campaign included a Listed Fernhill win by nearly two lengths over the Randwick mile and her run for seventh when only three lengths Nepotism up notably in grade for the Group 1 Champagne Stakes had merit. Fresh this time in her Furious Stakes run for 10th at 40/1 saw her do enough over an unsuitable trip before showing improvement crossing fourth in Caulfield’s Listed Jim Moloney Stakes behind Yum. She drops weight and meets her last start conqueror better in the kilos now with 56kg at set weights and I love that Mark Zahra comes aboard. Conditions to suit, good hoop aboard and the mile suits. Genuine hope.

2025 Edward Manifold Stakes Field

Each year the Edward Manifold Stakes field attracts a quality line-up of fillies coming off lead-up runs in events including the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) or the previous Friday night’s Group 3 MVRC Champagne Stakes (1200m) which currently runs as the Scarborough Stakes.

The Edward Manifold Stakes 2025 field and barrier draw is released by Racing Victoria on the Wednesday of race week and will be published in full below as soon as announced.

The 2025 Edward Manifold Stakes final field features a quality line-up of potential VRC Oaks bound fillies including the progressive Spicy Lu and the Michael Freedman trained Just A Journey coming off a lead-up win at Canterbury who James McDonald will partner.

Edward Manifold Stakes History

The Edward Manifold Stakes was first contested back in 1932 and gained its current Group 2 status in 1979. Plenty of star fillies have won the race over the years including Tranquil Star (1940), Light Fingers (1964), Storm Queen (1966), Emancipation (1982), and more recently Alinghi (2004).

Mosheen won the 2011 Edward Manifold Stakes and went on to take out that year’s Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

More recently in 2017 Bring Me Roses before a VRC Oaks second that year, and a third in the Australian Guineas the following autumn.

In 2018 Amphitrite won the Edward Manifold – Thousand Guineas double.

In 2023 Zardozi won the Edward Manifold – VRC Oaks double.
