The Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies) is a Group 2 race for two-year-old fillies held at Caulfield Racecourse in February during the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival.

The Clinton McDonald-trained Magnus filly Streisand ($3F) was excellent second-up improving on her luckless fifth in the Preview to salute for the punters with a class performance in the 2026 Blue Diamond Prelude (F) results at Caulfield on Saturday. Earning comparisons to the stable’s 2024 Blue Diamond champion, the late Hayasugi (2024), she showed plenty of improvement with her commanding three-quarter length victory that had her all-in Blue Diamond quote slashed from $26 to $9.

The meeting was previously headlined by the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) before the Orr moved to November in 2025.
It still features a host of other Group status races including the Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies) and the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (Colts & Geldings).
The Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude is run over 1100m and offers $350,000 in prize money.
The set weights clash is a traditional lead-up to the Group $2 million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) held back at the Caulfield track a fortnight later. Recent winners of the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude – Blue Diamond Stakes double include Hayasugi (2024), Lyre (2019), Catchy (2017), Earthquake (2014), and Samaready (2012).
Midnight Fever (1987) and Hayasugi (2024) are the only fillies in history to take out the Blue Diamond Preview – Prelude – Stakes treble.
Many of the fillies in the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude field will be kicking off their autumn campaigns. Some may have had an earlier lead-up in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies) run over 1000m at the track in late January.
Hayasugi (2024) is the latest filly to complete the Blue Diamond Fillies Preview – Prelude double.
The 2022 Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude form was franked with the winner Revolutionary Miss going on to run a next-up second in that year’s Blue Diamond Stakes results. She also returned in the spring and was runner-up in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) as a three-year-old.
The Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude 2026 ran on Saturday February 7, 2026 as part of the Rubiton Stakes Day card and was won in style by the progressive Clinton McDonald-trained Magnus filly Streisand ($3F).Â

The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained youngster is bred to shine in this race as a daughter of 2020 Blue Diamond winner Tagaloa, and she’s done everything right so far. She bolted in on debut in Adelaide in early December, then backed it up with another dominant display in the Geelong Diamond at the start of January. Freshened since, she tuned up with a sharp trial at the same track and retains the services of Luke Currie for her toughest test to date. It’s an open edition of the Prelude, but she brings the unbeaten record, the pedigree, a liking for firm ground, and a pattern that suggests she can settle midfield and unleash late. A repeat of her last start finish puts her firmly in the conversation for the Group 1 on February 21.

Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies) History
The Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude has been run and won since 1982 when it started out as a Listed race. It gained Group 3 status in 1986 before being run as a Group 2 feature since 2015.
For one year in 1996 and 2023 it ran at Sandown Racecourse, but all other editions of event have run at Caulfield Racecourse.
Notable recent Blue Diamond Prelude Fillies winners include Lyre (2019), Cathy (2017), Earthquake (2014), Samaready (2012), Alinghi (2004), and earlier in the race’s history Courtza (1989).
The 2017 Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude winner Catchy went on to beat the boys in the Blue Diamond Stakes results next start as did Lyre two years later. Lyre also backed up from her Blue Diamond Stakes win in 2019 to finish third next start in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) in Sydney that March.
