The all-in 2025 Blue Diamond Stakes betting markets have a new favourite with Jason Warren‘s nicely bred filly, Palm Angel, shooting to the top of the odds after her impressive victory in the Fillies’ Prelude at Caulfield on Saturday.

Preview winner My Gladiola went around favourite in this year’s Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude (F) on CF Orr Stakes Day but ultimately went down as the odds-on elect when a length beaten by up-and-comer Palm Angel ($7.50) who peeled off her back to hit the lead, draw clear, and pull off a lovely upset.

Ridden by Ethan Brown the Blue Diamond Prelude winning daughter of internationally performed ace Starstangledbanner made it two from three improving on her fifth fresh in the Preview to secure the Group 2 victory off a tactical performance by both horse and hoop.

Palm Angel impressed on debut last spring winning the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes at Flemington and was back in winning form second-up after her blip in the Preview after a spell.

Mornington based trainer Warren was quite optimistic about Palm Angel’s performance in the Blue Diamond Prelude.

He mentioned that the improved barrier draw and the fitness gained from her first-up run allowed Brown to push forward on Palm Angel, similar to her debut win.

“She’ll be a lot more forward this week,” he told the media post-victory, emphasing that they were bringing her to her peak for the Blue Diamond Stakes.

The Ciaron Maher trained Wiltshire Square completed the Blue Diamond Prelude trifecta in a gallant third off an on-speed run finishing a further three-quarters of a length off the winner.

The bookies were quick to react installing Palm Angel at the top of the pre-field markets for the upcoming Group 1 $2 million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) back at Caulfield on February 22.

She now pays $5 to repeat the feat of Hayasugi last year who did the Prelude – Blue Diamond double, although that filly enjoyed a rare treble having also claimed the Preview in 2024.
