2022 Australasian Oaks Results

  • 1st: #10 Glint Of Hope
  • 2nd: #2 Barb Raider
  • 3rd: #6 My Whisper

The Australasian Oaks, previously run as the Schweppes Oaks due to sponsorship, is a Group 1 race run over 2000m at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide. Held in late April or early May during the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival, the set weights race is open to three-year-old fillies and runs on Robert Sangster Stakes Day.

Offering just over $500,000 in prize money the Australasian Oaks is also a nice lead-up to the Queensland Oaks held in Brisbane during the winter carnival in June and the key Australasian Oaks lead-up is the Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m) held at Morphettville in late April.

The 2020 edition of the Australasian Oaks offered a reduced $400,000 in prize money due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Egg Tart (2017) was the last filly to complete the Australasian Oaks – Queensland Oaks interstate double.

The 2022 Australasian Oaks ran on Saturday April 30, 2022 as the opening Group 1 race of the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival and was won by the Japanese-bred Glint Of Hope ($13) for Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young.

  • Scratched: #1 El Patroness (8); #13 Pretty Amazing (19).

Danny O’Brien’s Group 1 ATC Oaks winner El Patroness as been scratched from the Australasian Oaks field due to a hoof abscess paving the way for the Patrick Payne-trained first emergency Bundle Of Fun to gain a start after originally missing a run due to a clause in the ballot that saw a number of lower-rated fillies sit above her. Jockey John Allen, originally booked to ride El Patroness, has picked up the ride on Bundle Of Fun.

Australasian Oaks History

The Australasian Oaks is a relatively new race which was first held in 1982. The first winner of the race was Rose Of Kingston, the dam to Melbourne Cup winner Kingston Rule. The race is known for producing great staying horses with many going on to place well in the Caulfield Cup. 2008 winner Zarita went on to beat the colts and geldings in the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m), which is held during the same carnival.

The most notable upset in recent Australasian Oaks history was the 2021 victory by 60/1 outsider Media Award.

Plenty of nice types have won the race including Lights Of Heaven (2011) and Delicacy (2015) who came off wins in the WA Oaks and WA Derby, and who also won that year’s SA Derby.
