The $1 million Australasian Oaks, previously known as the Schweppes Oaks, is a Group 1 race held at Morphettville in Adelaide.
The Australasian Oaks, previously run as the Schweppes Oaks due to sponsorship, is a Group 1 race run over 2000m at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide.
Held in late April or early May during the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival, the set weights race is open to three-year-old fillies and now runs back on the Robert Sangster Stakes Day card that also features the Group 1 $1 million Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).
Offering $1 million in prize money as of 2024, the Australasian Oaks is also a nice lead-up to the Queensland Oaks held in Brisbane during the winter carnival in June and the key Australasian Oaks lead-up is the Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m) held at Morphettville in late April.
Egg Tart (2017) was the last filly to complete the Australasian Oaks – Queensland Oaks interstate double.
In 2022 Barb Raider improved on her Australasian Oaks second to win Brisbane’s Group 2 The Roses next-up before finishing second again that year’s Queensland Oaks results.
The 2024 Australasian Oaks runs on Saturday April 27, 2024 as the opening Group 1 race of the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival and offers $1 million in prize money for the first time.

There was another upset in 2022 with Glint Of Hope winning at $13, while the $2.70 favourite My Whisper ran third without excuses.
Stay tuned for our exclusive Australasian Oaks 2024 Tips on the opening elite level of the SA Autumn Racing Carnival.
Wings Of Song is the narrow favourite after a flawless lead-up, and it’s hard to argue against her. Trained by Patrick Payne, she’s on a six-race winning streak and has all the credentials to extend it to seven. Dominating her Tasmanian competition this summer, she captured everything culminating in the Tasmanian Oaks (2100m). Her Adelaide debut was a winning effort in the traditional Australasian Oaks lead-up, the Auraria Stakes. While the Auraria Stakes – Australasian Oaks double hasn’t been completed for a few years, she cruised to a two-length victory in the Group 3 despite a wide draw. Proven over the distance and with a better barrier draw (9) this time, Wings Of Song deserves to be the favourite and looks poised for victory.
The Australasian Oaks field features a quality line-up of three-year-old fillies, many eyeing a run in the Queensland Oaks in Brisbane the following month. Plenty of local and interstate-trained fillies take to the Morphettville track in the Schweppes Oaks field, which is released on the Tuesday before the race following nominations the week prior.
The official Australasian Oaks 2024 field is set for release on Tuesday April 23, 2024 and will be published in full below.
The 2024 Australasian Oaks final field attracted a capacity line-up of fillies including the airborne Patrick Payne-trained Auraria Stakes winner Wings Of Song chasing her seventh win on the trot.

The Australasian Oaks is a relatively new race which was first held in 1982. The first winner of the race was Rose Of Kingston, the dam to Melbourne Cup winner Kingston Rule. The race is known for producing great staying horses with many going on to place well in the Caulfield Cup. 2008 winner Zarita went on to beat the colts and geldings in the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m), which is held during the same carnival.
The most notable upset in recent Australasian Oaks history was the 2021 victory by 60/1 outsider Media Award.
Plenty of nice types have won the race including Lights Of Heaven (2011) and Delicacy (2015) who came off wins in the WA Oaks and WA Derby, and who also won that year’s SA Derby.
