The Australasian Oaks, previously known as the Schweppes Oaks, is a Group 1 race held at Morphettville in Adelaide.
The Australasian Oaks, previously run as the Schweppes Oaks due to sponsorship, is a Group 1 race run over 2000m at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide. Held in late April or early May during the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival, the set weights race is open to three-year-old fillies and now runs as the feature race on its own meeting a week prior to Robert Sangster Stakes Day.
Offering just over $500,000 in prize money the Australasian Oaks is also a nice lead-up to the Queensland Oaks held in Brisbane during the winter carnival in June and the key Australasian Oaks lead-up is the Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m) held at Morphettville in late April.
The 2020 edition of the Australasian Oaks offered a reduced $400,000 in prize money due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Egg Tart (2017) was the last filly to complete the Australasian Oaks – Queensland Oaks interstate double.
In 2022 Barb Raider improved on her Australasian Oaks second to win Brisbane’s Group 2 The Roses next-up before finishing second again that year’s Queensland Oaks results.
The 2023 Australasian Oaks ran on Saturday April 29, 2023 as the opening Group 1 race of the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival and was won by the in-form Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Astern filly Affaire A Suivre ($7.50).

Stay tuned for our exclusive Australasian Oaks 2023 Tips on the opening elite level of the SA Autumn Racing Carnival.
The favourite is drawn out wide (barrier 16) but has time to overcome the alley and still looks the one to beat at a nice price. Craig Williams comes aboard Dan Morton’s classy Group 3 WA Oaks winning daughter of Pride Of Dubai who presents rock-hard fit here. She was a 1.6 length winner in the Oaks over the 2400m before taking on the boys in the Group 2 WA Derby running a brave third. Under two lengths beaten that run she drops back to 2000m against her own kind again here and looks a genuine chance to return to winning form.
The Australasian Oaks field features a quality line-up of three-year-old fillies, many eyeing a run in the Queensland Oaks in Brisbane the following month. Plenty of local and interstate-trained fillies take to the Morphettville track in the Schweppes Oaks field, which is released on the Tuesday before the race following nominations the week prior.
The official Australasian Oaks 2023 field is set for release on Tuesday April 25, 2023 and will be published in full below.
The 2023 Australasian Oaks final field features a quality line-up of three-year-old fillies led by the Oaks winning She’s Fit coming off a third in the WATC Derby and the Edward Cummings-trained Arts who was fifth last time out in Sydney’s Group 1 ATC Oaks.

The Australasian Oaks is a relatively new race which was first held in 1982. The first winner of the race was Rose Of Kingston, the dam to Melbourne Cup winner Kingston Rule. The race is known for producing great staying horses with many going on to place well in the Caulfield Cup. 2008 winner Zarita went on to beat the colts and geldings in the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m), which is held during the same carnival.
The most notable upset in recent Australasian Oaks history was the 2021 victory by 60/1 outsider Media Award.
Plenty of nice types have won the race including Lights Of Heaven (2011) and Delicacy (2015) who came off wins in the WA Oaks and WA Derby, and who also won that year’s SA Derby.
