Robbie Griffiths’ underrated Caulfield specialist and Group 1 Oakleigh Plate placegetter from the autumn, Rey Magnerio ($7.50) returned in style producing a huge late finish off a patient ride by Jye McNeil to head the 2025 Caulfield Sprint results. Still sixth on the home turn, the six-year-old marvel was then badly held up on the straight before finally getting a split 50m out from the line to charge through and salute in another deserving Group 2 victory. Griffiths is unsure if Rey Magnerio will be up to the challenge of the Group 1 $3 million Champions Sprint at Flemington on November 8 but said he will enter him for the event and wait to see.

2025 Caulfield Sprint Tips
Stay tuned for our insider Caulfield Sprint 2025 Tips on the Caulfield Cup Day showdown this spring.
To Win: No. 1 Rey Magnerio
REY MAGNERIO (4) shapes up as the value for mine in a winnable edition of the Caulfield Sprint drawn a good gate and ready to fire fresh. Robbie Griffiths’ Magnus six-year-old resumes and has a lovely first-up record (3:2-0-1). Well proven here at Caulfield (8:2-1-3) he is after his first win since saluting in the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at this course in the autumn. Followed that up with an eye-catching Group 1 Oakleigh Plate third on Blue Diamond Day behind Jimmysstar who looks a backmarker with genuine claims in Sydney’s The Everest this weekend. While his three subsequent runs left a bit to be desired, fresh he’ll be ready to bounce back and he’s classy enough to beat these. Well-rated, and even giving weight away as the 59kg topweight, he’s got the gate, the gears, and the grit to be a live chance at a nice price.
