2026 Angus Armanasco Stakes Results

Stay tuned for the official 2026 Angus Armanasco Stakes results and finishing order at Caulfield on Saturday February 21, 2026 and to see what female gallopers have a Group 1 autumn target in sight.

  • 1st: No. 1 Sheza Alibi ($1.50F)
  • 2nd: No. 2 Salty Pearl
  • 3rd: No. 5 Mystery ‘N’ Drama

Winning Margin: 2.25 lengths

Winning Time: 1:22.70

The heavily backed Saxon Warrior filly Sheza Alibi ($1.50F) proved far too strong for her rivals first-up saluting in the 2026 Angus Armanasco Stakes results with a commanding 2.25 length romp home up the inside rail off a patient ride by Zac Spain. The resuming Sandown Guineas champ from the Moody/Coleman stable was enormous in her campaign kick-off and has now firmed in from $5 to $3.60 second favouritism in all-in Randwick Guineas betting for the million-dollar mile event on March 7 through Ladbrokes.com.au.

The Angus Armanasco Stakes is run as part of the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival. Also featured on the same race day are three Group 1 races, including the feature Blue Diamond Stakes for the season’s top two-year-olds.

Many of the runners in the field will come via the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) at the track a fortnight prior.

Named after the Australian Racing Hall of Fame horse trainer, Angus Armanasco, the Stakes race is the ideal lead-up to the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1600m) held at Flemington on Super Saturday. Zarita (2008) and Treasurethe Moment (2025) are the latest mares to complete the Angus Armanasco – Kewney Stakes double.

The 2023 Angus Armanasco Stakes form was franked by the runner-up Royal Merchant who soon after travelled to South Australia and completed the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes – Group 1 The Goodwood double at Morphettville.

The 2025 Angus Armanasco Stakes winner Treasurethe Moment went on to frank the form winning her next four starts with wins in the Kewney Stakes, Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes, ATC Oaks and the spring’s Memsie Stakes.

The Angus Armanasco Stakes 2026 ran on Saturday February 21, 2026 at Caulfield Racecourse as a potential Group 1 ATC Oaks lead-up and was won in a thrilling late run up the inside rail by the dominant odds-on favourite Sheza Alibi ($1.50F).

2026 Angus Armanasco Stakes Tips

Stay tuned for our insider Angus Armanasco Stakes 2026 Tips on the fillies’ feature this Blue Diamond Day in Melbourne.

To Win: No. 1 Sheza Alibi

SHEZA ALIBI (1) is a short-priced favourite in the Angus Armanasco Stakes, and while there’s not much value on offer, it’s incredibly hard to make a case against her — she still looks better than bank interest. The Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained daughter of Saxon Warrior went to the paddock a dual spring winner and returns here looking every bit ready to pick up where she left off. She was brilliant fresh last prep, taking out the G3 Vanity over 1400m at Flemington by nearly two lengths during Cup Week, before absolutely destroying the boys in the G2 Sandown Guineas at Caulfield, putting 5.75 lengths on them over the mile. She’ll only improve deeper into the campaign, but on sheer class she should have these covered, especially after an eye-catching trial win at Pakenham in late January. Zac Spain sticks, she draws the inside alley, and she maps to get every possible favour. She’s the standout on paper — and I’m happy to be with her regardless of the price.

Angus Armanasco Stakes History

The first recorded winner of the Angus Armanasco Stakes was Better Draw in 1976. Since then, the race has undergone several name changes from the Tranquil Star Stakes, The Dalgety Stakes, The Inglis Premier Sale Stakes, The Jewel Stakes and then in 1996 it became the Angus Armanasco Stakes.

The race has switched between 1400m and 1600m and was a Principal race until 1980 when it became a Group 3 race. In 2000 the Angus Armanasco Stakes was elevated to Group 2 status.

Plenty of nice fillies have added their name to the Angus Armanasco Stakes winners’ list over the years including returning VRC Oaks winner Treasurethe Moment (2025), Qafila (2019) who went on to win the Group 1 SA Derby, subsequent Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker (2011), and the iconic Miss Finland (2007).

In 2023 the event took place at Ladbrokes Park Lakeside, Sandown, with renovations happening at Caulfield.
