The boys will have to watch their backs when the 2026 Randwick Guineas rolls around March 7 with the talented Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained filly, Sheza Alibi, storming into contention for the Sydney Group 1 with a huge Caulfield victory in Saturday’s Group 2 $300,000 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m).

The brilliant daughter of Saxon Warrior picked up right where she left off with the resuming Sandown Guineas champ from the spring proving a class above her fellow three-year-old fillies when running them ragged late to salute for the punters as the $1.50 favourite in the 2026 Angus Armanasco Stakes.

Sheza Alibi is the current $3.60 second favourite to become the first Randwick Guineas winning filly since Mosheen in 2012!

A patient ride from Zac Spain was rewarded when Sheza Alibi looked to be in a sticky situation fifth on the turn for home and held up for a run before her hoop made the masterful call to stick to the inside.

Finally getting the run inside the final furlong, the well-backed filly drove home right against rail before accelerating away in a blistering turn of foot to beat home the Ciaron Maher-trained Salty Pearl by 2.25 lengths.

“I’m thrilled for Zac, he’s a big part of our stable, he does so much work behind the scenes,” co-trainer Coleman told Racing.com.

“That wasn’t easy for him, he had to be patient, he made the right call, thankfully he had the horse underneath him to accelerate like that, thrilled for him, he really deserves it.

“We were hoping that she would be able to produce for him when he needed her to.

“Geez she’s exciting this filly, you don’t want to get too ahead of yourself, but I think she’s something really special.”

Stablemate to the favourite, Mystery ‘N’ Drama, was also huge late charging into third as an underrated 30/1 pop.

“Super there for Team Yulong. She’s out of a great mare in Unforgotten a Group 1 winner, so very important to get that on the resume for a filly like her,” Moody said.

“So, thanks to Yulong, and she’s one that you will definitely see at Flemington in two weeks’ time.”

After being scratched from her original first-up run last week, Moody said that the focus had to move from getting her ready for the Group 1 $1 million Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on February 28 to the Group 1 $1 million Randwick Guineas (1600m) on March 7.

“We just thought she needed to come on a little bit. She needed one more gallop, and I’m happy we did it,” Moody explained.

“We did the right thing by her. Unfortunately, it cost us an opportunity to run next Saturday in the Australian Guineas, which was always our aim, but now we might have to head to Sydney to take them on in the Randwick Guineas.”

When asked if Sheza Alibi was good enough to win the Randwick Guineas, Coleman was bullish.

“Damn right she is,” she said.

Sheza Alibi’s price in all-in Randwick Guineas betting at Ladbrokes.com.au has been slashed from $5 to $3.60 and she’s now considered the key danger to the favourite Autumn Boy ($3.40).

Mosheen (2012) was the last Randwick Guineas winning filly.

Looking further ahead, Moody said there were a plethora of spring targets they’ll consider for Sheza Alibi including the Group 1 $5 million Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) at Flemington on October 24 for which she’s currently paying $15 in outright markets to win.

“You dream of her, could she be a Cox Plate filly? But at worst, well it’s a terrible thing to say ‘at worst’ you’ve got a race like the Golden Eagle,” he said.

“You’ve got the Empire Rose. There’s a lot of options, so we just need to make sure we look after her.”
