2026 Coolmore Classic Results

Stay tuned for the official 2026 Coolmore Classic results and finishing order at Rosehill on Saturday March 14, 2026 and to see what female gallopers are Queen Of The Turf Stakes bound.

  • 1st: No. 1 Lazzura ($5)
  • 2nd: No. 5 Arctic Glamour
  • 3rd: No. 3 Vivy Air

Winning Margin: 0.32 lengths

Winning Time: 1:28.39

A more conservative sit-and-wait style of ride from the maestro James McDonald saw Chris Waller’s always honest four-year-old Snitzel mare Lazzura ($5) deservingly breakthrough for her maiden Group 1 success in the 2026 Coolmore Classic results at Rosehill. Allowed to settle back off pace from the gate (8), the up-and-comer delivered when asked, coming from well off them at the top of the straight to unleash a powerful late burst right down the outside, extend and hit the line 0.32 lengths clear of Arctic Glamour who came with a huge run up the middle while Vivy Air ran third. It was Waller’s fourth straight Coolmore Classic win, and the result sees McDonald sit one Group 1 win off the G.O.A.T Damien Oliver’s all-time record. Lazzura is likely to head to Randwick on April 11 for the Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes and she’s firmed in from $26 to $11 through Ladbrokes.com.au to improve on her fourth in the race last year and win another Sydney elite level.

Coolmore Classic Tips

Stay tuned for our insider Coolmore Classic 2026 Tips on the autumn Group 1 this season.

  • To Win: No. 1 Lazzura

Wow, what a tough race from a betting perspective! This year’s Coolmore Classic is wide-open, but I’ve landed on the favourite LAZZURA (8) who gets her chance second-up to return to winning form. Chris Waller is chasing a remarkable fourth straight Coolmore Classic victory, and the top fancy looks every inch the mare to deliver it. The four-year-old daughter of Snitzel has surged to the top of betting and she brings the right profile to keep Waller’s streak alive after Espiona (2023), Zougotcha (2024) and Lady Shenandoah (2025). She was brave fresh in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes, narrowly beaten as the odds-on favourite by Cinsault, and she strips fitter second-up — a scenario she thrives in with a strong 4:2-0-1 record. The rise to 1500m looks ideal, and her sharp Randwick trial on March 5, finishing second to Perfumist, suggests she’s tightened the screws perfectly. Drawn well in gate eight and partnered by the red-hot James McDonald, who continues his charge toward Damien Oliver’s Group 1 record, Lazzura ticks plenty of boxes. Even with the equal topweight of 58kg, she shapes as the class mare in the race and the one they’ll all need to get past.

Coolmore Classic News

The Coolmore Classic, registered as the Tad Kennedy Stakes, is a quality Group 1 race held as part of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival in early-mid March each year.

Taking place midway through this exciting carnival as the marquee race on Coolmore Classic Day at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, this 1500m event for fillies and mares is run under quality handicap conditions and is worth $1 million in stakes as of 2024. The Coolmore Classic is one of the richest female races held during the Sydney Autumn Carnival and is the only Group 1 race at the meeting.

Coolmore Classic Day features a host of Group 2 and 3 support races including the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m), which are the final lead-ups for two-year-olds heading towards the iconic Group 1 $5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m). The Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) and Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) are the other two Group 2 events on the program.

Key lead-up races into the Coolmore Classic field include the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) and the Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) both run in late February or early March on Verry Elleegant Stakes Day.

Lady Shenandoah (2025) was the last filly to complete the Surround Stakes / Coolmore Classic double.

While many mares have won both the Guy Walter Stakes and Coolmore Classic, the last to do the double in the same year was Danni Martine (2005).

In 2026, Lazzura handed trainer Chris Waller his fourth straight Coolmore Classic win coming via a lead-up 2nd in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m).

The best out of the Coolmore Classic may go on to run in upcoming autumn features such as the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) and Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) held at Randwick over ‘The Championships’.

The Coolmore Classic winner is in fact exempt from ballot for both the Doncaster and Queen Of The Turf races.

Con Te Partiro (2020) and Zougotcha (2024) are the latest mares to complete the Coolmore Classic – Queen Of The Turf Stakes (Coolmore Legacy Stakes) double.

The 2022 Coolmore Classic form was franked with that year’s Surround Stakes winner Hinged running third in the event before a next-up Vinery Stud Stakes second and fourth in the ATC Oaks. Hinged also returned in the spring and was third in both the George Main Stakes and Epsom Handicap.

The Coolmore Classic 2023 winner Espiona franked the form that spring winning the $2 million The Invitation race.

Coolmore Classic History

This race has been known as many different names over its history including the Winfield Classic, Orlando Wines Classic, Rosemount Wines Classic, Marlboro Classic, NSW Thoroughbred Breeder’s Stakes and the Fillies & Mares Classic.

Miss Personality won the inaugural running in 1973 when it was a principal race. Not long after in 1980 it gained Group 2 status and was eventually installed as a Group 1 race in 1984.

Outstanding fillies and mares who have won the Coolmore Classic include Sunline (2000 & 2002) carrying 60kg, Tuesday Joy (2007), and Assertive Lass (1997).

In 2020 trainer Gai Waterhouse celebrated her record-equalling fifth Coolmore Classic victory with Con Te Partiro.

Lady Shenandoah (2025) was the last filly to win the Coolmore Classic.

Waller secured his fourth straight Coolmore Classic victory in 2026 with Lazzura.
