2026 Champagne Stakes Results

Stay tuned for the official 2026 Champagne Stakes results and finishing order at Randwick on Saturday April 18, 2026.

  • 1st: No. 2 Fireball ($6.50)
  • 2nd: No. 1 Campione D’italia
  • 3rd: Diameter

Winning Margin: 0.26 lengths

Winning Time: 1:35.45

Chris Waller’s Inglis Millenium winning son of Snitzel, Fireball ($6.50), improved on his lead-up third in the Inglis Sires’ to turn the tables on his stablemate Campione D’italia ($2.15F) when fighting back in a driving finish to salute by 0.26 lengths off a peach of a ride by Tim Clark in the 2026 Champagne Stakes results. Waller’s Fernhill Handicap winner from the Saturday prior, Diameter ($26), ran huge for third. Campione D’italia lost few admirers in his brave loss and remains favourite in futures betting on the Group 1 JJ Atkins in Brisbane.

Champagne Stakes Tips

Stay tuned for our insider Champagne Stakes 2026 Tips on the 2yos feature this autumn.

To Win: No. 1 Campione D’italia

CAMPIONE D’ITALIA (4) looks the clear one to beat in the 2026 Champagne Stakes, and everything about his setup suggests he’s ready to complete the Skyline/Sires’/Champagne treble. Drawn perfectly in gate four and reunited with James McDonald, the classy Snitzel colt has already shown a booming turn of foot this prep, bursting onto the scene with a shock Skyline win fresh before producing a monster run from last for a luckless Golden Slipper fourth. He then relished the step to 1400m, cruising home in the Inglis Sires’ with plenty up his sleeve, and that performance screamed “mile horse”. Now rock-hard fit, mentally sharp with the pre-race earmuffs, and building beautifully through his gears as the distances rise, he profiles as the runner who will eat up the 1600m better than anything else in the field. With the right map, the right rider and the strongest form lines, Campione D’Italia is the class act on an upward trajectory — and he’s the one I’m siding with on top in the Champagne.

Champagne Stakes News

The Group 1 ATC Champagne Stakes is the final two-year-old Group status race of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. Held at Randwick Racecourse on All Aged Stakes Day in mid to late April, the 1600m Champagne Stakes is worth $1 million in prize money.

As a set weights race for juveniles, colts and geldings must carry 56.5kg and fillies must carry 54.5kg.

The mile clash takes place on the same day as the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) and is run on the Saturday after The Championships finish-up at Royal Randwick.

The key lead-up into the Champagne Stakes field is the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) held a fortnight earlier and recent winners of the double include Militarize (2023), King’s Legacy (2020), Guelph (2013), Pierro (2012) and Helmet (2011).

In 2022 She’s Extreme improved on a lead-up Inglis Sires’ second to win the Champagne Stakes. That year’s Golden Slipper Stakes – Inglis Sires’ double winning filly Fireburn meanwhile ran second in the Champagne Stakes results.

She’s Extreme went on to frank the 2022 Champagne Stakes form returning in the spring for a second in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m), third in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) and victory in the Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m) in Melbourne over the Cup Carnival.

In 2023 trainer Chris Waller completed the Sydney 2YO Triple Crown with Shinzo winning the Golden Slipper before Militarize took out the Inglis Sires’ – Champagne Stakes double.

Militarize franked the 2023 Champagne Stakes form that spring returning to win the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).

The 2024 Champagne Stakes form was firmly franked with the winner, Broadsiding, going on to win the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) in Brisbane that winter and the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes that spring in Sydney before his gallant third behind superstar Via Sistina in October’s Ladbrokes Cox Plate results.

In 2026, trainer Chris Waller trained the Champagne Stakes trifecta with his Inglis Sires’ third placegetter, Fireball ($6.50), narrowly upsetting the team’s winner of that key lead-up, Campione D’italia, with Diameter on the quick back-up off a Fernhill Handicap win at the track and trip the Saturday prior finishing third.
