The money is coming for the Chris Waller-trained Lazzura to return to winning form with the class mare firming into favouritism in Coolmore Classic 2026 betting at Rosehill this weekend.

A key race for female gallopers offering a ballot free ride into both the Doncaster Mile and Queen of the Turf Stakes, the Group 1 $1 million Coolmore Classic (1500m) has attracted a top-class field of fillies and mares chasing an elite-level win for the autumn.
Following the official release of the Coolmore Classic field and barriers, it is Waller’s four-year-old daughter of Snitzel, Lazzura, who has hit the top of the markets at $4.60 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
Master trainer Waller has won the past three editions of the race and looks to have a strong chance of making it for on the trot following on from his victories with Espiona (2023), Zougotcha (2024) and Lady Shenandoah (2025).
Lumped with carrying the equal 58kg topweight, Lazzura presents fit second-up off a good run fresh when runner-up to Cinsault when narrowly edged out as the beaten odds-on favourite in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes.
She goes up a furlong here which suits, has a nice second-up record she’s out to add to here (4:2-0-1) and looked the goods in a subsequent Randwick trial when second to Perfumist on March 5.
Lazzura will jump from gate eight with hoop of the hour, James McDonald, booked to ride in another big plus as the flying jockey chases down the G.O.A.T. – Damien Oliver’s – Group 1 record in the saddle.
While Lady Shenandoah ($2.60 in 2025) saluted for the punters in last year’s event, she was only the fourth top fancy going back to 2004 to do so.
The danger occupying the second line of Coolmore Classic betting at $5 is Brad Widdup‘s classy filly Savvy Hallie looking to beat home her older rivals in the race as Lady Shenandoah did 12 months ago.
The bonny daughter of Hellbent, drawn wide out in gate 13 for jockey Nash Rawiller to overcome, is fourth up and out for her second win this prep.
She took out the Group 2 Light Fingers in a good run two back before her devastatingly close second behind Tempted in the Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) at her latest – a form line that could be worth following into Saturday’s Group 1 over further.
It is a wide-open edition of the Coolmore this year with a further four runners also under $10 for the win including the Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained Ole Dancer ($6.50) who is already a proven Group 1 champion.
She claimed Thousand Guineas glory further south in the spring over the Caulfield mile and should relish the step up to 1500m now after two runs over seven furlongs this time in.
Another Surround Stakes graduate, she completed the trifecta in that fillies’ only feature on February 28 and has Zac Lloyd sticking in the saddle for her test against the mares now.
The consistent Michael Freedman-trained Manaal ($8) presents as another fit hope with genuine winning claims after back-to-back seconds this prep.
The four-year-old daughter of Tassort loves it here at Rosehill Gardens (5:2-1-0) having won the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes / Golden Pendant double at the track last campaign.
She resumed carrying 59.5kg to run second in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes before finishing one off the winner again in the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes on Surround Stakes Day.
Krone (2021) was the last runner to complete the Guy Walter Stakes / Coolmore Classic double and this year out to repeat that feat is Verona Rose ($9) for Ciaron Maher.
The four-year-old was strong through the line on a Soft rated track second-up and ticks plenty of boxes to salute again after drawing favourably in gate four for Craig Williams.
The second runner for Freedman in the mix at a nice price to add to her impressive picket fence is Cinsault ($9).
The Brazen Beau four-year-old comes off a hat-trick of wins including handling a notable rise in grade to defeat many of these same rivals home in the Millie Fox which is proving a strong form race this autumn.
The 2026 Coolmore Classic is set to run as Rosehill Race 8 at 4:35pm (AEDT) on Saturday’s 10-race card.
