The Magic Millions Cup is a $2 million race held at Queensland’s Gold Coast Racecourse in January on the iconic $12.5 million Magic Millions Race Day.
The jewel of the Magic Millions Racing Carnival, the meeting is host to a bumper line-up of Restricted races open only to Magic Millions graduates including the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) and the $3 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m).
Another highlight on the Gold Coast race card at the summer race day is the Restricted Listed Magic Millions Cup run under quality handicap conditions over 1400m.
Horses may come into the Magic Millions Gold Coast Cup field via an earlier summer lead-up in Queensland including the Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) and the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes at Doomben in December. Vinco ran fifth in the Lough Neagh Stakes before his upset win in the 2023 Magic Millions Cup.
Sydney’s Group 2 $2 million The Ingham Stakes (1600m) – formerly the Villiers Stakes – at Randwick is also a good Magic Millions Cup lead-up and in 2015 Strawberry Boy ran third in the former and runner-up in the latter.
The riches of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival often calls graduates of the Magic Millions Cup with races like the Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) and the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm – now worth $3 million and sponsored by Ladbrokes.com.au – make nice upcoming targets later in the year.
The 2022 Magic Millions Cup form was franked with the winner Eleven Eleven going on to run third in that winter’s Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) in Brisbane behind the Magic Millions Cup third placegetter Apache Chase.
The 2024 Magic Millions Cup winner Semana franked the form going on to run top three in a host of subsequent Group 1 races that year including the Coolmore Classic (2nd), Queen Of The Turf (3rd), and Brisbane’s Tatt’s Tiara (2nd).
The Magic Millions Cup 2025 form was franked with the runner-up Charm Stone travelling to Adelaide to win the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes at her next start. She would also race in Melbourne that spring and claim victory in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Magic Millions Cup History
The Magic Millions Gold Coast Cup is one of Queensland and the Magic Millions Race Day’s youngest races, first run in 2003 when the Clarry Conners-trained Cosmic Rays won.
Locally trained Queensland runners have a strong record in the Magic Millions Cup results including wins by the Tony Gollan-trained Spirit Of Boom (2012). Sydney’s best Chris Waller prepared back-to-back Magic Millions Cup winners at the Gold Coast with Triple Elegance (2013) and Velrosso (2014). The event was run over a shorter 1200m distance in 2003.
The Magic Millions Cup prize money was boosted to $1 million for the first time in 2016 and the race day was Australia’s first $10 million meeting.
The Magic Millions Cup will be worth an unprecedented $2 million in 2025 with just shy of $14 million on offer across the card.
In 2022 Eleven Eleven made history as the first two-time Magic Millions Cup champion.
The Gold Coast’s million Magic Millions Day – including the 2023 Magic Millions Cup -was abandoned after the opening two races due to ongoing rainfall, deteriorating track conditions and unsafe jockey conditions and rescheduled for the following Thursday.
The 2025 Magic Millions Cup along with six other Magic Millions races were abandoned due to heavy rainfall and rescheduled for Friday night on January 17 under the lights at the Gold Coast.
