The Magic Millions Maiden Plate is a set weights race run at the Gold Coast Racecourse in January as part of the prestigious Gold Coast Magic Millions Race Day.

Offering $250,000 in total prize money the 1100m race accompanied a line-up of more lucrative features on the day including the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), $3 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) and the $2 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m).

The Gold Coast Magic Millions Maiden Plate is open only to Magic Millions graduates and who are yet to post a career win.

After a run in the race, horses may continue onto the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and contest the Group races over the festival.

The Magic Millions Maiden Plate 2025 ran at the Gold Coast on Saturday January 11, 2025 to kick off Magic Millions Day and saw locally trained Harry Angel gelding Heavenly Impact ($9) improve on his unplaced runs in Brisbane last winter to relish the wet conditions in the first.

Race favourite and market mover in the first Volatile is trained by Peter Snowden and has been solid without success. He looks well-placed to run a strong race in the Magic Millions Maiden Plate to kick off the card at the Gold Coast this Saturday. In his second start, he finished third in the Inglis Golden Gift despite encountering traffic problems in the straight. Importantly, the form from that race has proven strong, with six subsequent winners emerging. Volatile has had a lengthy break since that run, allowing him time to develop and mature. His recent trial win was impressive, suggesting he’s ready to produce a career-best performance. With Tommy Berry in the saddle, Volatile should be able to settle just off the pace and unleash a strong finish.

The Magic Millions Maiden Plate field has a capacity of 14 starters plus five emergencies and is restricted to horses aged three-years-old and above out of the Magic Millions sales who are yet to win a race.

Magic Millions Maiden Plate History

The Magic Millions Maiden Plate at the Gold Coast has a rich history over the past decade with wins by the likes of Stratford (2011), Danrho (2013), and Elle Lou (2015) all prepared by Hawkes Racing.

The race did not take place in 2023.

The race distance has changed a number of times in recent years including being held over 1400m in 2024 before a reduction to 1100m in 2025.
