Le Romain Proves Too Good in Cantala Stakes

Le Romain has posted his second career Group 1 triumph with a classy performance for success in the 2016 Cantala Stakes (1600m) on Derby Day at Flemington.

Le Romain delivered champion colt Press Statement an upset defeat in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) in autumn, but was yet to return to winning form through four competitive starts this ...

2016 Cantala Stakes Tips

  • 1st: #4 He’s Our Rokkii – (Bet on He's Our Rokkii now): Happy to leave the favourite and take one of the next best in Cantala Stakes betting with this Lindsay Park-trained four-year-old shooting for his sixth straight win. Saluted in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) over the distance last time out and only is rock-hard fit. If he hasn’t peaked yet, has the upside to win again.
  • 2nd: #11 Mackintosh – (Bet on Mackintosh now): Sydney’s Chris Waller chases a third win in this race in six years. Of his hopefuls this galloper is the best fancied despite coming off a Sydney run – history against him in that regard. That run was an Epsom Handicap third and he only rises a kilo to 53kg so is right in this.
  • 3rd: #7 Voodoo Lad – (Bet on Voodoo Lad now): Darren Weir saddles-up three and there’s a nice double-figure price offered for Voodoo Lad to retain his flawless 100% place rate. Won on Caulfield Cup Day and is up to a mile for the first time, but the ease of that win suggest he’ll run out the distance.
