Pierata chasing huge payday in 2018 Magic Millions 3yo Guineas

The Greg Hickman trained three year old Pierata is in the running for a huge pay day if he can secure a win in the $2m Gold Coast Magic Millions 3yo Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

As well as the winning cheque of $1.2m, Pierata will also pick up a lazy $500,000 bonus for winning three designated races for the three year olds for the Summer Crown Series, with the Magic Millions 3yo Guineas the final leg in the bonus series.

Pierata scored a first up win in the first leg of the 3yo Summer Crown Series, the $100,000 Rupert Plate (1200m) at Doomben on December 2 before running second to Whypeeo in the Listed $100,000 Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Doomben on December 17.

The Pierro colt then kept his chances of winning the $500,000 alive with a win in the Group 3 $200,000 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben on December 30.

Melbourne Cup winning jockey Corey Brown was aboard Pierata for his three Brisbane Summer outings and believes that the colt still has plenty of improvement for the Magic Millions 3yo Guineas.

“He’s still very new, but I’m certain he’s a Group 1 horse,” Brown told The Courier-Mail.

“I said that earlier and I stick by it. Maybe not this prep, but at some stage he will be.

“He didn’t settle early in the race, so I brought him back another pair and once I dragged him back he was good.

“When I exposed him in the straight, he put them away pretty quick.”

Pierata is a clear cut $3 favourite for the 2018 Magic Millions 3yo Guineas well ahead of his nearest rival Sasso Corbaro at $7.

Last Saturday’s Randwick winner Aqua D’ivina won’t be making the trip to the Gold Coast this weekend after trainer Matt Smith confirmed that the Pierro filly won’t be taking her place in the Magic Millions 3yp Guineas.

Now is the time to head to Ladbrokes.com.au for the best futures markets for the 2018 Magic Millions 3yo Guineas.
