Our insider Champions Mile 2023 Betting Tips & Trifecta Selections on the Stakes Day showdown will be detailed below the week of the race.
Small field, but what a race! We have a genuine line-up of mile stars here led by Mr Brightside who can bounce back here. The Team Hayes-trained galloper won five on the trot including his opening three this prep before back-to-back seconds he is out to atone for here. Beat Alligator Blood by 1.5 lengths in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at this track and trip then went up to Sydney and finished a distant second to Chris Waller’s runaway winner Fangirl in the King Charles III Stakes with excuses. Was huge at The Valley flashing up the inside late to nearly beat Romantic Warrior right on the line in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2000m). Back to a mile (15:10-1-1) and Flemington and he’s rock hard fit and will be hard to hold out.
Our Champions Mile Tips page also has lots more historical facts and betting stats on the Champions Mile winners and the top way to uncover the value in the mile classic each Melbourne Cup Carnival.
There are many different ways to bet on the Champions Mile . While some bets – like the Champions Mile exotic bets – may be a little confusing for an inexperienced punter, there are plenty of standard bets that are quickly understood and easy to place.
Win – In a win bet you place a stake on a selection to win the Champions Mile. This is a simple bet that offers a great pay-out if you pick correctly.
Place – In a place bet you select a horse to come first, second or third in the Champions Mile – increasing your chances of winning compared to a straight win bet.
Each-Way – An each way bet incorporates two bets on just one horse. Select one horse to either win or place in the Champions Mile for the chance to receive two pay-outs if your selection comes first or to still collect some winnings if your selection comes in second or third.
For professional or simply well-practised punters the Champions Mile betting is all about exotic bets. Exotic bets involve up to four horses at a time and are a lot more complex to pull off than the standard Champions Mile bets. However, with a little help from our comprehensive guide you will be able to bet on the Champions Mile like you were born at the track.
For a winning Champions Mile quinella, you have to determine the first two horses to cross the line – however, the order in which they arrive is not important. As long as your two runners of choice are the first horses home, you have won and have a huge pay-out to look forward to.
A Champions Mile exacta works similar to an Champions Mile quinella: again you choose the first two horses to finish the race; however, in an Champions Mile exacta you must pick them in the exact order of arrival. This makes the Champions Mile exacta a difficult bet to win, but in turn it does offer a bigger pay-out than the Champions Mile quinella.
To win an Champions Mile trifecta you have to pick the first three runners across the finish line in the exact order of arrival. A Champions Mile trifecta is considered a massive achievement within the betting community if you can pull it off. To reduce the difficulty of this bet, you can try to place a box trifecta instead, which covers every possible trifecta combination of your selected horses.
For a successful Champions Mile First Four, you must pick the first four thoroughbred runners to finish the race, in exact order. To pick a winning Champions Mile First Four is no easy feat by any stretch but it does bring you invaluable track credit as a serious punter, as well as a massive pay-out. As with the trifecta, placing a boxed version of this bet will increase your chances of a win, though it is more expensive.
