The 2017 Tulloch Stakes is a Group 2 race for three-year-old colts & geldings contested over 2000m at Rosehill Gardens under set weights held midway through the illustrious Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival on The BMW Day.
The meeting is host to two Group 1 races – the $1.5 million Group 1 The BMW (2400m) and the $500,000 Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) – as well as a host of support acts including the Tulloch Stakes and the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) for the fillies & mares.
Offering $200,000 in total prize money the Tulloch Stakes serves as a key lead-up to the $2 million Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) contested at Royal Randwick a week later on Day 1 of ‘The Championships’. The last horse to complete the Tulloch Stakes – ATC Derby double was Starcraft (2000).
Horses may come into the Tulloch Stakes field via a number of earlier autumn lead-up races including the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) run at the same track a fortnight earlier on Coolmore Classic Day.
The Tulloch Stakes 2017 will be run on Saturday March 25, 2017.

Tulloch Stakes History

There have been a number of high quality horses to take out the Tulloch Stakes including Ivory’s Irish (1995), Mahogany (1994) and Durbridge (1991), all of which won the Tulloch Stakes/Australian Derby double.
More recent notable Tulloch Stakes winners include Hauraki (2015), and Count Encosta (2010).
