The wet weather continues in Sydney today with showers forecast across the afternoon and following plenty of late week rainfall meaning there could be a downgrade to the current Soft (7) Newcastle track rating as the meeting progresses.

Newcastle racing gets underway at 2:15pm (AEDT) and the seven-race card of postponed Rosehill races is scheduled to conclude with the Group 3 $160,000 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) at 5:55pm (AEDT).

After heavy rainfall and unsafe track conditions forced Saturday’s Tancred Stakes Day meeting to be abandoned after the opening three races, there were still six Group status races on the card including a double-shot of elite level racing that will now run today.

The first of the meeting’s features is Race 5 at 4:40pm (AEDT) where a field of potential Sydney Cup-bound stayers face off in the Group 1 $1.5 million Tancred Stakes (2400m).

Nine of the original final acceptors remain in the 2022 Tancred Stakes field including Australian Cup winning mare and race favourite Duais after the scratchings of #5 Great House (9) and #8 Avion Fury (8).

Following on in Race 6 at 5:20pm (AEDT) it is the Australian Oaks-bound fillies’ turn in the Group 1 $500,000 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).

The Vinery Stud Stakes 2022 field is set to run at capacity with the first emergency Hidden Smile coming in for the withdrawn #10 Honeycreeper (8). 

Vinery Stud betting markets are led by Chris Waller’s Surround Stakes winner Hinged and undefeated Queenslander Gypsy Goddess for David Vandyke.
