The Goodwood is a Group 1 race held at the scenic Morphettville racecourse in Adelaide as part of the South Australia Jockey Club’s premier racing carnival. Taking place in May of each year on Goodwood Day, the meeting also sees the running of the Group 1 South Australia Derby (2500m). The Goodwood is a 1200m sprint run under set weight conditions and is worth $300 000 making it one of the most lucrative South Australian races.
As the leading sprint race at the Adelaide Carnival, the event always attracts a highly competitive field of quality gallopers. Entries may come via a number of earlier races including the Group 2 Yallambee Stud Classic (1200m) on Adelaide Cup Day, which has been the best guide to the Goodwood in recent times.
The Goodwood 2012 will be run on Saturday May 12th at Morphettville Racecourse.

D.O.D. was the inaugural Goodwood winner in 1881 when it was a principal race run over six furlongs. From 1886 to 1888 the race was not held but resumed the next year in 1889 under the same status and distance. In 1942 and 1943 the race did not take place again. The length was converted to 1200m in 1973 and the race?s status was lifted to Group 1 in 1980. Up until 2007 the race was run as a handicap event known as the Goodwood Handicap.
Notable winners include Super Elegant (20040, Bomber Bill (2003), Sword (1996), Euclase (1992) and Boardwalk Angel (1989).
