Myer Classic next for Tristarc Stakes winner Global Glamour

The Group 1 Myer Classic is the next target for Global Glamour after scoring a nose win in the Group 2 $200,000 Schweppes Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield today. Global Glamour was the third leg of a winning treble for Tulloch Lodge co-trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott following wins by Our Crown Mistress in…

The Tristarc Stakes is a quality Group 2 thoroughbred event held as part of the coveted Melbourne Spring Carnival on one of the most anticipated days of racing, Caulfield Cup Day. Taking place on a Saturday in mid to late October, Caulfield Cup Day features seven quality Group races including the: Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m), Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m), Group 3 Ladbrokes Caulfield Classic (2000m), Group 3 Coongy Cup (2000m) and Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m).

The Tristarc Stakes is run over the sprint distance of 1400m by a solid field of mares under set weights plus penalties and is worth $200,000. It is a great middle distance sprint for mares heading towards prestigious events including the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on Victoria Derby Day or the Group 2 Matriach Stakes (2000m) on Emirates Stakes Day. The set weights conditions that the race is run under ensures that the higher seeded females claim victory more often than not. In recent years the Tristarc Stakes has been a decent guide to the Myer Classic, with Red Tracer (2013) the last to do the double.

The 2017 Tristarc Stakes ran on Saturday October 21, 2017 .

2017 Tristarc Stakes Tips

  • 1st: #1 Foxplay
  • 2nd: #13 Shillelagh
  • 3rd: #3 Silent Sedition

Hard to bet against the favourite FOXPLAY in the Tristarc Stakes 2017 tips. This Chris Waller-trained Group 1 winning daughter of Foxwedge returns to Caulfield for the first time in over a year when fourth in the 2016 Thousand Guineas. Geez she has been doing some great things since in Sydney including a solid spring lead-up that included two placings behind the star stablemate Winx and the solid Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) fourth when three lengths off Happy Clapper. Needs to get on her Melbourne-leg, but against her own kind again looks good. SHILLELAGH is also Waller-trained and has ‘The Magic Man’ Joao Moreira aboard second-up. She’s a market mover heavily backed but still at double-figures out to improve on a lead-up seventh, but her second-up record is three-from-four. SILENT SEDITION has the outside barrier to overcome but she is class and the 1400m here second-up suits.
