2016 Australasian Oaks Nominations
The official Australasian Schweppes Oaks 2017 nominations close on Thursday April 27, 2017 and will be available right here as soon as announced by the South Australian Jockey Club (SAJC).
The 2017 Schweppes Oaks Nominations are now out with 28 three-year-old fillies making up the early entries including the Darren Weir-trained favourite Kenedna coming off back-to-back black-type wins at the Morphettville track.
Australasian Oaks History
The Australasian Oaks is a relatively new race which was first held in 1982. The first winner of the race was Rose Of Kingston, the dam to Melbourne Cup winner Kingston Rule. The race is known for producing great staying horses with many going on to place well in the Caulfield Cup. 2008 winner Zarita went on to beat the colts and geldings in the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m), which is held during the same carnival.
Plenty of nice types have won the race including Lights Of Heaven (2011) and Delicacy (2015) who came off wins in the WA Oaks and WA Derby, and who also won that year’s SA Derby.
