Spring Carnival plans for 2017 Queensland Oaks winner Egg Tart

Trainer Chris Waller has earmarked the Group 1 $1m Epsom at Randwick over 1600m as a possible Spring Carnival target for Egg Tart who blew away her rivals to win the Group 1 $500,000 Treasury Brisbane Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Doomben today. Egg Tart ($3.10 favourite) made it six wins on the trot when Kerrin…

Australasian Oaks History

The Australasian Oaks is a relatively new race which was first held in 1982. The first winner of the race was Rose Of Kingston, the dam to Melbourne Cup winner Kingston Rule. The race is known for producing great staying horses with many going on to place well in the Caulfield Cup. 2008 winner Zarita went on to beat the colts and geldings in the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m), which is held during the same carnival.

Plenty of nice types have won the race including Lights Of Heaven (2011) and Delicacy (2015) who came off wins in the WA Oaks and WA Derby, and who also won that year’s SA Derby.
