Day 2 of The Championships takes place in Sydney today, Saturday April 11, marking a year since equine superstar Winx ran her last race and below we have a look at the full Randwick track report and scratchings for the day.
The forecast is for a partly cloudy but otherwise fine day in Sydney and without any chance of serious rainfall, there could be an upgrade to the current Heavy (8) Randwick track rating that currently plays in favour of the proven mudlarks.
Randwick racing kicks off at 11:35am (AEST) and the bumper 10-race card continues through until the fillies and mares do battle in the Group 2 $300,000 Sapphire Stakes (1200m).
Early on the card Magic Millions 2YO Classic winning filly Away Game ($2.90 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) is on show in the Group 2 $500,000 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) looking to frank the form out of her Golden Slipper second.
Next-up the three-year-olds do battle in the lucrative Group 2 $500,000 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) where Groundswell (2) and Villami (5) have come out of the field.
All 14 original acceptors remain in the line-up for the day’s opening elite level – the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) – where Godolphin’s impressive Adrian Knox Stakes winner Colette ($3.40 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) does battle with star Kiwi filly Probabeel ($3.10 @ Ladbrokes.com.au) in Race 6 at 2:30pm (AEST).
A dozen stayers remain in contention for the two-mile classic that is the Group 1 $1 million Sydney Cup (3200m) after the withdrawal of the Matthew Smith-trained Corncrake (1) from Race 7.
The feature of the day that Winx dominated from 2017-19 and that she ran her swansong race in 12 months ago, the Group 1 $2 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) is set to get underway at 3:55pm (AEST).
Star horseman Chris Waller is still in with four runners as he looks for his fourth straight win in the weight-for-age classic despite the scratching of Life Less Ordinary, with his contingent led by Tancred Stakes winner Verry Elleegant ($6 @ Ladbrokes.com.au).
The last of the Group 1 races is the Coolmore Legacy Stakes (1600m) with last weekend’s shock Doncaster Mile winner Nettoyer backing up in the penultimate event on the card where Unforgotten (7), Miss Fabulass (9) and Fidelia (5) have all come out.
