Despite drawing way out in the field, the Artie Schiller colt leads the latest markets at Ladbrokes.com.au on the $150,000 Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) that brings the Kingsford-Smith Cup Day action to a close on the weekend.

Fred Best Classic odds on the top fancy sit at $4.80 despite Good Standing drawing out near the very edge of the starting line-up.

Last start on May 13 at Brisbane’s other top track the Group 1 performer enjoyed a win in the Listed Queensland Day Stakes (1350m) by nearly three lengths.

He is out to bring that form to the roomier Eagle Farm course on the weekend tracking towards a run in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) in a fortnight’s time.

This is a tougher race than the easy Brisbane kill two weeks back and he’s got a nasty gate, but Good Standing has class and Damian Browne retains the ride.

Occupying the second line of betting at $6 is perennial placegetter Heroic Valour who has run second in three of his four latest runs.

Opie Bosson is aboard the Stephen Autridge & Jamie Richards-trained New Zealander who comes off a devastatingly close second to Savanna Amour at the Gold Coast on May 6 in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m).

A Group 1 placegetter back across the Tasman, the progressive Fastnet Rock colt will have taken benefit from his earlier run in Queensland and will also be better suited to the 1400m of Saturday’s second-up assignment.

Despite the size of the Fred Best Classic field this season just two other three-year-olds are currently under $10 to win the set weights sprint with Tessera ($7) and Dreams Aplenty ($9.50) both drawn ideally.

Jumping from gate four with James Doyle in the saddle, Godolphin’s in-form Medaglia D’Oro gelding Tessera comes off a third when only a quarter-length beaten in the Gold Coast Guineas last time out.

That could prove the form race to follow into Saturday’s event, but with winning form only up to 1100m Tessera has to prove he can handle the distance.

Dreams Aplenty meanwhile is prepared in Toowoomba by John Zielke who is full of confidence ahead of Saturday where his proven miler chases a fifth win on the trot.

The latest victory by the son of Dream Ahead was at Eagle Farm on April 29 in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1600m), his second from three starts at the track, and the shorter distance this weekend shouldn’t be an issue with Dreams Aplenty boasting plenty of form over the 1400m (3-2-1-0).
