The Mystic Journey Stakes (formerly known as the Bow Mistress Trophy) is a Group 3 event held at Hobart Racecourse during the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.
The Bow Mistress Trophy – run in 2024 as the Mystic Journey Stakes – is a Group 3 race run at Hobart Racecourse on a Friday in early February during the annual Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival, two days prior to Hobart Cup Day on the Sunday.
The 1200m sprint race is open to fillies and mares and is contested under weight-for-age conditions. Offering $150,000 in prize money and serves as a nice taster for punters keen for the Sunday’s Group 3 Ladbrokes Hobart Cup (2400m).
The best out of the Bow Mistress Trophy field each year may back-up at Launceston Racecourse in the Group 3 Vamos Stakes (1400m) run under the same conditions and also for female runners only. In 2016 the Bow Mistress Trophy runner-up I Love It backed-up to win the Vamos Stakes. She also went on to run third in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) in Adelaide that winter.
In 2024 the race was renamed the Mystic Journey Stakes in honour of former star Tasmanian filly Mystic Journey best known for her Group 1 Australian Guineas and All-Star Mile victories as a three-year-old in Melbourne in 2019.
The Bow Mistress Trophy 2024 ran on Friday February 9, 2024 as the Mystic Journey Stakes and was won by the visiting Lindsey Smith-trained favourite Yellow Sam ($2.70F).

Jaguar Stone is a mare worth watching in the open Mystic Journey Stakes. Fresh off a strong second-place finish here at the Hobart track, she seems ready to roar back second-up. Carrying a lighter weight this time (56.5kg down from 59kg), she boasts an impressive 75% win rate at the 1200m distance and even has Black-Type experience. Trained by Adam Trinder, she’s adept at the Hobart course and appears fitter and primed for a big run over the six furlongs. Don’t miss her at an attractive price – she ticks all the boxes for a potential upset.
The Bow Mistress Trophy field traditionally features a line-up of locally-trained fillies and mares and is released by Tas Racing the week of the race.

Early nominations for the Mystic Journey Stakes in 2024 close the Monday of race week and will be updated below once confirmed by Tas Racing.
The Bow Mistress Trophy was originally named after former star Tasmanian mare Bow Mistress who won a host of top races over her career.
It was inaugurated in 2006 as a Listed race and gained its current Group 3 status in 2012. It is one of the country’s younger Black-Type races and has been won by the likes of Diamond Cover (2008), Lady Lynette (2014), and dual winner Rebel Bride (2012-13).
The race was renamed ahead of the 2024 edition as the Mystic Journey Stakes.
