Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse is host to a bumper day’s racing for The Championships 2018 Day 1 this afternoon, a detailed track report and updated list of scratchings for the rich meeting detailed below.
It is a fine day trackside for the latest Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival event and the current Good (4) Randwick track rating looks set to stay, the first firm track The Championships Day 1 has seen since the initiative was introduced by the Australian Turf Club (ATC).
Sydney racing kicks off early today with the two-year-olds doing battle first-up in the Kindergarten Stakes at 11:30am (AEST).
Immediately after the fans get a glimpse of the world’s best mare Winx who will be put through her paces in an exciting exhibition gallop after the first ahead of her shot at win number 25 on the trot in Saturday week’s Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
It is a bumper 10 race card for punters to sink their teeth into at Ladbrokes.com.au and the action goes right through until the ATC Oaks-bound Luvaluva leads the field of three-year-old fillies out in the Adrian Knox Stakes at 5:10pm (AEST).
There are four elite level features on the program starting with the 2018 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Race 6) where all 15 original final acceptors including Golden Slipper runner-up Oohood remain in the mix.
It is the three-year-old stayers’ turn next-up in the 2018 Australian Derby (Race 7) and the two emergencies have come out leaving a capacity 18 starter field including the VRC Derby champ Ace High in gate two.
The season’s best sprinters then face off in the 2018 TJ Smith Stakes (Race 8) and the red hot favourite is Redzel ($2.35).
Team Snowden’s The Everest champion faces just 10 rivals after three scratchings from the TJ Smith Stakes field: #6 Thronum (8), #11 Missrock (13) and #13 Showtime (14).
The meeting’s richest race then runs as the penultimate event with the 2018 Doncaster Mile field remaining intact, the 16-horse line-up led in betting by Godolphin’s Randwick Guineas winning three-year-old Kementari ($3.40).
