The event is unlisted but offers a lucrative $1 million in stakes along with a ballot exemption to the winner into the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) a fortnight later.
The Shorts Day is headlined by the Group 2 $1 million The Shorts (1100m) for The Everest hopefuls.
The meeting was formerly known as George Main Stakes Day and saw the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) serve as a key Epsom lead-up.
Ahead of the 2023 edition however the George Main Stakes was renamed the $5 million King Charles III Stakes and moved to The Everest Day in October.
The other key support acts on the race card are the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m), Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m), and the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m).
The 7 Stakes – Epsom Handicap double is now a key spring racing bet type.
Horses in the 7 Stakes field are likely to have an earlier Sydney lead-up in an event like the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) in August or the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) a fortnight earlier.
In 2023 the inaugural 7 Stakes winner Think It Over improved on a lead-up third in the Winx Stakes to win third-up.
Think It Over went on to frank the 7 Stakes form winning the Group 1 Verry Elleegant Stakes the following March. Fangirl meanwhile improved on her 7 Stakes third in 2023 to win the King Charles III Stakes at her next start.
Fangirl returned in the 2024 7 Stakes to improve on her third the year prior and salute for the punters.
Fangirl went on to frank the 7 Stakes form from 2024 with a host of subsequent top three placings at Group 1 level including her 2025 Queen of the Turf Stakes win.
Fangirl became the first official two-time 7 Stakes winner with her second success in 2025.
The third running of the $1 million 7 Stakes took place on Saturday, September 20, 2025 as a lead-up to the Epsom Handicap and was won in a narrow thriller by the defending champion and race favourite Fangirl ($2.05F).Â

2025 7 Stakes Tips
Stay tuned for our insider 7 Stakes 2025 Tips on the key spring lead-up this September.
- No. 11 Fangirl ($2.70 at time of publish) – BET NOW
FANGIRL (5) is the defending 7 Stakes champ and deserving favourite, and I cannot go past her in this field. Waller’s now seven-year-old daughter of Sebring has been oh so consistent for the stable amassing an incredible $10 million over her 34 starts to date. Eight of her 11 wins have been here at Randwick and her strike-rate at the track and trip is very solid (12:3-3-1). She ran third in the first official edition of this event in 2023 before taking out the top prize last year for the punters, and she ticks plenty of boxes to now go back-to-back. Fangirl really doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and she showed her class all autumn topped off by a deserving Group 1 Queen of the Turf trophy. First-up she went south and ran a credible fourth behind boom mare Treasurethe Moment in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield. She’ll relish a return to Sydney now and the step-up to a mile. That Memsie form is proving hot with the runner-up Mr B blitzing the best in the Makybe Diva to win that event for a historical third time last weekend. That bodes well for Fangirl, and I won’t be betting against her second-up.

7 Stakes History
The 7 Stakes race history kicked off with a thriller as Think It Over ($5) enjoyed his first win since the previous year’s Queen Elizabeth Stakes defeating Zaaki after an exciting two-horse race to the line.

Fangirl (2025) holds the current 7 Stakes race record winning in 1 minute 34.27 seconds.
Fangirl (2024 & 2025) was the last mare to win the 7 Stakes and the last back-to-back champion.
