Michael Freedman’s Inglis Sires’ winning filly Manaal is tipped to keep the Group 1 wins going when she lines-up favourite in Champagne Stakes 2024 betting in Sydney on the weekend.

The final elite levels of the Autumn Carnival in New South Wales take place at Royal Randwick on Saturday including the Group 1 $1 million Champagne Stakes (1600m) for two-year-olds.

The final leg of the juveniles’ Triple Crown has drawn a small but class field of eight youngsters led in betting by Manaal in gate four.

She has Jamie Kah coming aboard in place of Jason Collett for the mile classic and pays current Champagne Stakes odds of $2.35 to beat home the boys again.

The talented daughter of Tassort is a genuine Randwick specialist having won all three of her previous starts at the course including the Group 1 Inglis Sires’ (1400m) a fortnight back.

There was little to spare on the line that day in a blanket finish thriller, but the way she did it on a Heavy (8) suggests she’ll see out the extra distance this weekend on firmer going.

The danger following closely in the markets at $3 is the unbeaten John O’Shea-trained Linebacker in gate five with Tommy Berry to ride.

Super Seth colt Linebacker is two-from-two to date leading up to his Group 1 test on Saturday where he rises notably in grade off a tight win in Rosehill’s Group 3 TL Baillieu over 1400m on March 30.

Prior to that his debut at Hawkesbury saw him salute in the wet by nearly four lengths over 1300m so there is support for him fit and up to a mile now.

Two others are under double-figures for the win with early market mover Broadsiding ($7 into $5.50) for Godolphin and the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Anode ($8).

Too Darn Hot colt Broadsiding is already proven at the 1600m distance giving him a notable advantage.

The James Cummings-trained up-and-comer broke his maiden status at his fourth start improving on a third to Linebacker in the Baillieu to relish the Randwick mile last Saturday and take out the Fernhill by over two lengths.

On the quick back-up he looks a genuine chance to salute again returning to the track and trip out to complete the Fernhill Handicap – Champagne Stakes double for the first time since Prized Icon (2016).

Anode meanwhile jumps from gate three with Adam Hyeronimus aboard the nicely-bred son of I Am Invincible who presents rock hard fit fourth-up for the autumn.

He was second in both the Group 3 Pago Pago and Group 3 Baillieu before finishing seventh when failing to handle the wet Randwick track in the Sires.

Anode comes back into contention for the Champagne if the Randwick track remains in the Good – Soft range, although with plenty of rain in the radar that might not happen.
