A host of the early favourites in 2018 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas betting for next month at the Gold Coast will face off this weekend at Doomben Racecourse in the Vo Rogue Plate field.

One of the last remaining lead-up races into the Restricted Listed $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on January 13, this Saturday’s Group 3 $200,000 Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) field has attracted a capacity line-up.

Heading the Vo Rogue Plate odds at Ladbrokes.com.au as well as those all-in Magic Millions 3YO Guineas markets for next month paying $3.40 and $4 respectively is the Gregory Hickman-trained Pierata.

Two back the well-fancied and well-bred Pierro colt won over 1200m at Doomben by three lengths before a narrow last start loss when runner-up in the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m).

Despite failing to secure back-to-back wins this time in, the bookies kept Pierata at the top of betting for the lucrative Gold Coast Magic Millions Guineas.

Duel Melbourne Cup winning jockey Corey Brown retains the ride on Pierata in the Vo Rogue Plate, which the horse is also favourite to win despite drawing wide out in gate 13.

The major danger out to stop Pierata from returning to winning form on Saturday looking at Vo Rogue Plate betting is his last start conqueror Whypeeo ($4).

An $11 shot in all-in Magic Millions Guineas betting, the in-form Toby Edmonds-trained I Am Invincible gelding defeated Pierata by a neck in the Gold Edition Plate.

Jeff Lloyd is on again this weekend with Whypeeo looking to extend his brilliance over further than 1200m for the first time.

Despite the bumper size of Saturday’s Group 3 race field, just one other runner is currently under $10 for the win with Shogun Sun ($8.50) drawn wide out in gate 15.

Prepared locally by Kelly Schweida, the Written Tycoon gelding is a $7 chance for the 2018 Magic Millions Guineas win and is out to stake his claims for that on the weekend.

After a failed run in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) when 12^th to Trapeze Artist in Sydney back in September, Shogun Sun improved first-up at Doomben when third in the Gold Edition Plate.

There has also been early love for Capital Gain to return to winning form on Saturday, Paul Butterworth’s son of Ad Valorem the early Vo Rogue Plate market mover backed in from $14 to $10.

The gelding’s winning form extends out to a mile thanks to his victory in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) at Doomben in the winter, the form of which was franked by the second placed filly Aloisia who won the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) and Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) in Melbourne over the spring.

Capital Gain ran first-up on December 2 when well-beaten crossing over six lengths back sixth to Pierata over 1200m at Doomben, but he has won a subsequent trial and will be improving second-up over more metres in Saturday’s rematch.
