Raiment Leads 2017 JHB Carr Stakes Field & Odds

Despite a wide draw the bookies are taking no chances with the John O’Shea-trained Raiment who sits top of the JHB Carr Stakes 2017 field and betting odds for this weekend in Sydney.

Set to run as Randwick Race 8 at 4:25pm (AEST) as the penultimate event on the All Aged Stakes Day card, this season’s $150,000 Group 3 McGrath Estate Agents JHB Carr Stakes (1400m) has attracted a capacity line-up of three-year-old fillies.

Drawn out wide in barrier 13, coming into 12 if the emergency Lilac Lane (4) fails to gain a start, is Street Cry filly Raiment.

The three-year-old pays $4.60 leading the JHB Carr Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au to return to winning form third-up.

She won the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) in the wet at Rosehill by over three lengths on Golden Slipper Day before her mid-field seventh to Diddums at Randwick last time out in the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m).

Getting back up to 1400m, Raiment shapes up as a genuine hope to post another Group win in Sydney this autumn.

Equal on $6 and occupying the second line of JHB Carr Stakes betting are the PJ Bell Stakes winner Diddums and runner-up Prompt Response.

Gerald Ryan’s Snitzel filly Diddums had nearly two lengths to spare over the second placegetter when she scored an upset on April 1 as a $20 roughie.

She is as yet untested over further than 1200m however and meets the fillies she beat home equal in weights this time going up from 54kg to 56kg at set weights plus penalties.

Prompt Response meanwhile will be fitter for her resuming run in the PJ Bell, the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained daughter of Beneteau having run top two in her past four starts going back to October.

She has winning form over 1400m and in both her Randwick runs to date has finished runner-up putting her in the mix again on Saturday with Blake Shinn retaining the ride.

Rounding out the single figure fancies are the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained PJ Bell fourth placed My Country ($7.50) and the consistent James Cummings-trained daughter of Smart Missile Smart Amelia ($8.50) drawn in barriers nine and 11 respectively.

Smart Amelia has run top three in all three starts this season, including finishing third in the PJ Bell Stakes and has raced in Group 1 class up to a mile previously.

Other notable hopes include the Jason Coyle-trained Albury Guineas winner Siren’s Fury ($16) who ran third over the track and distance last Saturday in the Listed South Pacific Classic behind Generalissimo, and recent Phar Lap Stakes runner-up to subsequent Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner Foxplay Zenalicious ($12) – drawn at the opposite ends of the field in barriers one and 15 (into 14) respectively.
