Lyuba Leads 2017 Vamos Stakes Field & Betting

Darren Weir’s in-form Victorian raider Lyuba has opened at a nearly odds-on quote in Vamos Stakes 2017 betting to enjoy a Group 3 win in Tasmania this Sunday.

The four-year-old daughter of Turffontein is one of a full field of fillies and mares taking to the Launceston track in Race 7 at 4:48pm (AEDT) for this summer’s edition of the $125,000 Group 3 Vamos Stakes (1400m).

Drawn a treat in barrier four, Damian Lane is in the Apple Isle for the ride on Lyuba who has finished worse than second just once in her 10 start career to date.

This is her first look at the track after she ran just a half-length away second to Ocean Embers in the Group 3 Bow Mistress Trophy (1200m) at Hobart last time out.

Her biggest danger looking at the Vamos Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is fellow Melbourne visitor I Love It who pays $4.40 while Lyuba sits at $2.

The John Salanitri-trained Arite Schiller six-year-old I Love It is another graduate out of the Bow Mistress from February 3 who also has form at Launceston.

She backed up from a Bow Mistress second last Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival to win the 2016 Vamos Stakes and could be hard to hold out again defending her title in the weight-for-age clash.

The only other hopefuls under $10 for the win are Must Be Mink ($8.50) and early market mover for Sunday Life On The Wire ($9) drawn alongside each other in barriers six and seven respectively.

Weir also trains black Musket six-year-old Must Be Mink who goes around the Launceston course for a third time.

She hasn’t raced here since her opening two career starts back in December of 2013 however and is in stakes’ class for the first time at her 21st run.

The best of the locals is the Scott Brunton-trained Life On The Wire who comes off a string of three second place runs.

David Pires rides the Pluck filly who takes on the older mares and gets the advantage weight-wise on 53.5kg.

She was last seen racing against her own age and holding her own finishing runner-up to Sunday’s Tasmanian Oaks favourite Hot Dipped in the Listed Tasmanian Guineas (1600m) before taking on the boys in the Listed Hobart Guineas (2100m).

Life On The Wire was well-beaten that day crossing 7.5 lengths off the explosive winner, but was the best of the rest behind the Gai Waterhouse-trained ATC Derby hope Northwest Passage.
