Artistry Returns in 2017 Millie Fox Stakes Field

Progressive Rosehill specialist Artistry returns to racing as part of a classy line-up of female gallopers in the Millie Fox Stakes 2017 field this Saturday in Sydney.

The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Shamardal five-year-old is one of 13 final acceptors in the $200,000 Group 2 Ranvet Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) that is set to jump as Rosehill Race 7 at 4:25pm (AEDT).

Drawn wide out in barrier 12, Kerrin McEvoy rides the mare in her first start since taking out Flemington’s Group 3 Maybe Mahal Stakes (1400m) on Melbourne Cup Day.

Artistry has trialled once since and will appreciate getting back to Rosehill Gardens where she has won three of her four starts on way to the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in April.

Drawn the opposite end of the Millie Fox Stakes field with barrier one is Nick Olive’s Not A Single Doubt four-year-old Single Gaze carrying the 58kg top weight.

She won the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at the track last March before falling in the Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m).

Single Gaze has spent nearly a year on the sidelines recovering, but looked set for her return after two nice trials at home in Canberra over the summer.

Also drawn well are the likes of Euro Angel (3) for Team Hawkes and the Chris Waller-trained French Emotion (4).

Tommy Berry rides Rip Van Winkle four-year-old Euro Angel on the weekend, the Group 3 winning mare out to atone for her last start 14th in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) over the Flemington mile back on Derby Day.

Runner-up to the winner I Am A Star in that same race, French Emotion is a five-year-old daughter of Snitzel running second-up in the Millie Fox in her maiden Rosehill assignment.

French Emotion won last October’s Group 2 Blazer Stakes (1400m) at Flemington and returned to racing on February 4 at Randwick.

She finished second last when eighth behind In Her Time in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m), but will appreciate the extra distance of the Millie Fox Stakes.

Waller has also accepted for Tsaritsa in gate eight, the Dane Shadow four-year-old coming off a sixth in the Breeders Classic and chasing her first win since the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm in June last year.

Breeders Classic winner In Her Time is also in the Millie Fox Stakes mix this autumn chasing her fourth win on the trot.

She hasn’t been defeated since April last year, the Benjamin Smith-trained Time Thief four-year-old going up from 54kg in her Group 2 success first-up to 56kg at set weights plus penalties this weekend.

Also coming off a win is the Gregory Hickman-trained Private Secretary who gets in on the 54kg light weight on Saturday.

The Husson five-year-old saluted in the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies & Mares race over this distance at the Gold Coast in mid-January and has stellar form over the 1300m (6-3-2-1).
