Super Cash to Contest Newmarket Handicap Fresh

Trainer Andrew Noblett has confirmed that first-up winner Super Cash will contest the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) as a second point of call this season, owing to her outstanding fresh form.

Super Cash was rated little chance of success in the classy Group 2 Rubiton Stakes field at Caulfield on Saturday, but the mare more than stamped her ability with a dominant performance to find the line close to two lengths in the clear of closest rival I Am A Star.

Noblett revealed after the Rubiton Stakes that the Written Tycoon mare would be targeting the Newmarket Handicap, but told Racing Ahead that she will not have another start before the featured sprint after pulling up extremely well.

“She was good and won well,” Noblett said.

“On her work and her trial leading into the race, it was first rate and it was just a matter of how she was going to fit into that field with Chautauqua and a couple of the others.

“Her fresh form was very good, but against restricted fillies and mares’ class, so to go in there and do that was a great thrill.

“She’s come through that run really well and just with her fresh form being so good, we’ll give her those four weeks between runs and she’ll head to the Newmarket at her next start.

“She’s gone really well down the straight as well, so it’s good to go to that race with a horse that you know is going to run well down there.

“She was pretty dominant at the end of the race, so we’ll go there with a live chance and we’re really looking forward to it.”

Super Cash has finished outside the first three only a handful of times through her fourteen career starts so far and will enter the 2017 Newmarket Handicap with a record of four wins and a further five minors.

Breaking through for her first black type win in the Listed Goodwood Racecourse Trophy (1100m) at Flemington last autumn, Super Cash resumed in spring for a smart win in the Alfred Hospital BM90 (1100m) before running fourth in the Group 3 Sensis Stakes (1100m) and third in the Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m).

Super Cash is currently considered a $21 chance in early 2017 Newmarket Handicap betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au.
