Double Jeopardy Tops 2016 Inglis Debutant Stakes Field & Odds

The card opener on Caulfield Guineas Day this Saturday is the Inglis Debutant Stakes 2016 where early favourite Double Jeopardy is the only two-year-old in the 11-starter field with previous race experience.

Set to run as Caulfield Race 1 at 12:20pm (AEDT), markets at Ladbrokes.com.au for this season’s $120,000 Listed Inglis Debutant Stakes (1000m) have six of the runners at single-figures for the win.

Heading the Inglis Debutant Stakes odds at $3.90 and drawn just worse than midfield in barrier seven is the Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained Exceed And Excel colt Double Jeopardy.

He kicked off his career just last Sunday down the Flemington straight running second to Madeenaty in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial (1000m) and is now accepted for a quick back-up into the Caulfield showdown this weekend.

Connections were obviously impressed with how Double Jeopardy came through the win to be put on the quick backup and the race experience works in his favour if he stays in.

The second best fancied hot on his heels in the Inglis Debutant Stakes betting markets drifting out from $3.70 to $4 is the rails-drawn Wait For No One.

Stephen Baster rides the Lindsay Park-trained Lonhro colt who has won his two lead-up trials, most recently at Cranbourne on September 19 over 800m.

The inside alley is a big plus and the trial performances saw him still being held back, so expect improvement with the right run from barrier one.

The next best in betting backed in from $7 to $6 is Miss Wahoo drawn just one off the fence in barrier two.

Tony McEvoy’s Master Of Design filly is the best fancied of the girls in the line-up and ran second in her Cranbourne trial a month ago.

Rounding out the single figure fancies are the Ciaron Maher-trained Snitzel colt Jukebox ($8.50) drawn the outside alley with Craig Williams booked for the ride, the John O’Shea-trained Platinum ($9) and Spoils ($9.50) who has been well supported early after opening at $13.

Jukebox and Platinum are yet to trial and so debut green, but Snitzel filly Spoils from the local stables of Clinton McDonald won her hit-out in the wet at Cranbourne on September 19.

In an open affair the other standout dangers at more generous odds to kick off their careers with a feature Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival day win include Fen Chu ($11), Columbia ($13) and Banter ($15).
