2016 Tattersall’s Mile Betting Tips

The last of the Black-Type Brisbane races this Queensland Winter Racing Carnival is Saturday’s Tattersall’s Mile 2016, betting tips for the Doomben showdown detailed below.

Lauterbrunnen

Running as Doomben Race 7 at 4:12pm (AEST), this year’s $100,000 Listed Tattersall’s Mile Handicap (1600m) features 11 hopefuls after the early withdrawal of Bewhatyouwannabe (5).

Sitting top of the updated Tattersall’s Mile odds at Ladbrokes.com.au at $4.20 and firming is the rails-drawn Flamboyer shooting for three wins on the trot.

Kelly Doughty’s Gold Coast-trained Clang five-year-old was last seen winning the Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast on July 2 and faces a distance test going up to the mile this weekend.

It is a close Tattersall’s Mile betting market this season with five of the favourite’s rivals also under $10 for the win including the local Robert Heathcote-trained Lauterbrunnen ($5) and Ciaron Maher’s Melbourne-based Akavoroun ($5.50) who ran third and second respectively over the track and distance last time out.

Their last start conqueror was the John & Chris Meagher-trained Harada Bay, the six-year-old also in the Tattersall’s Mile mix on Saturday paying $6.50 to post his first stakes win at career start number 46th.

So will one of the best in betting get the job done or is there an upset Tattersall’s Mile 2016 result pending from the likes of the Brian Smith-trained Feltre ($7.50) shooting for back-to-back Brisbane stakes wins, smart Commands five-year-old Brettan ($8.50) or even Pat Duff’s in-form veteran galloper Steel Zip ($12) coming off a third in Grafton’s Ramornie Handicap?

Our 2016 Tattersall’s Mile Trifecta Tip is #8 Lauterbrunnen from #7 Feltre and #5 Harada Bay

1st

#8 Lauterbrunnen ($5)

Robert Heathcote’s remaining runner, this Not A Single Doubt gelding has run top three in his past three starts including a Rockhampton win and his third when a length off Harada Bay at Doomben over 1630m on July 9. He goes down from 55.5kg to Saturday’s 54kg minimum, has Jim Byrne retaining the ride and plenty of good form over the track / distance (10-2-1-4). Rising in class, but was racing on well last time out and can get the job done with the right run here even though it’s not his preferred course.

2nd

#7 Feltre ($7.50)

Apprentice James Orman takes over from Paul Hammersley in the saddle of Smith’s Spear Chief Handicap winner Feltre who saluted over 1830m here on June 25 and is dropping back in distance. He is probably better over more metres, but he does like the Doomben track (9-2-2-0) and is in good form, improving each run so if there’s any chance of a Soft track he’ll be in the money again.

3rd

#5 Harada Bay ($6.50)

Luke Dittman stays on this consistent six-year-old who has a great record over the Doomben mile (8-2-2-3) and is chasing his first Black-Type win. Has won two of his past three starts here, ran third at Rockhampton also over the mile in between, and is dropping in weight. Deserving of a big run, but is out wide.
