Winner of the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) in March, the Godolphin-raced Lonhro colt is one of 14 two-year-olds running in the $250,000 Group 2 Mitavite BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) on Doomben 10,000 Day on Saturday.

Due to run as Doomben Race 5 at 2:42pm (AEST), the BRC Sires’ is a lead-up to the $600,000 Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 11.

Sitting top of futures JJ Atkins betting and also the latest BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au for the weekend is Souchez drawn ideally in barrier two with James McDonald booked for the ride.

McDonald rode the youngster to victory in the Pago Pago Stakes and replaces Jason Collett in the saddle after a jockey change for the galloper’s first-up third to Winning Rupert at Doomben in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) a fortnight ago.

Currently Souchez pays $3 to return to winning form this weekend, the firming favourite followed in the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes betting markets by four other single figure hopes.

The co-$7 second picks are Attention and Cadagon drawn in barriers six and 14 respectively.

Peter & Paul Snowden train Stratum colt Attention, a Group 3 winner over 1400m at Rosehill after a seventh in the Pago to Souchez, who comes off a Champagne Classic second from BTC Cup Day.

He was beaten only a neck in the Group 2 last time out with Blake Shinn in the saddle and has the same hoop aboard this weekend as he looks to go one better.

Cadogan is also a Sydney visitor, the Bjorn Baker-trained Smart Missile colt ridden by Shinn last time out on May 18 at Randwick for a nearly two length win over 1400m.

He is up in Black-Type company for the first time at his fourth start on Saturday and has Jeff Lloyd aboard from the outside alley.

Occupying the third line of betting at $8 each are Kiwi raider Sacred Elixir and Sylpheed.

Zac Purton rides Tony Pike’s Pour Moi gelding Sacred Elixir from a wide barrier 12 draw on the back of the youngster’s down under debut at the Sunshine Coast on May 11 when winning over 1400m by over a length.

Gai Waterhouse trains Real Saga filly Sylpheed who also ran well last time out on May 7 when second to Moqla in the Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville.

Out to score an upset BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes result this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival at more generous odds are the likes of Kelso Wood’s local Snitzel colt Nikitas ($14) who was runner-up in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic before his Champagne Classic eighth, Steven O’Dea’s Magic Millions Classic third placed filly Candika ($14) and last start Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial winner at the Gold Coast Royal Tithe ($14).
