2015 Stradbroke Handicap Update: Fast ‘N’ Rocking Scratched

A below capacity field will face off in Queensland’s richest race this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival with another scratching from the 2015 Stradbroke Handicap field this morning in Fast ‘N’ Rocking.

Earlier in the week news broke that Lord Of The Sky was out of the $2 million Group 1 AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1350m), which runs as Doomben Race 8 at 3:37pm (AEST) this afternoon, after he injured himself before leaving his Victorian stable.

That ensured the now firming $4.60 favourite in the latest Stradbroke Handicap odds at Ladbrokes.com.au, who are offering Best Tote or SP + 20% on your winnings for the three Brisbane Group 1s this afternoon, Lumosty gained a run.

Robert Smerdon’s flying filly was the first emergency sweating on a start before she got the call-up and will now jump from barrier 10 with Corey Brown in the saddle on just 50.5kg looking to become the first three-year-old filly to win the Stradbroke Handicap since La Montagna (2006).

This morning a second Stradroke Handicap scratching was announced with a stone bruise ruling out the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Fastnet Rock four-year-old Fast ‘N’ Rocking from the line-up.

The gelding was last seen crossing fifth to Charlie Boy, a $6.50 shot at the Group 1 today, in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) on May 9 but won’t get a chance to atone in the Stradbroke.

Fast ‘N’ Rocking came out after the race’s other emergencies had also already been officially withdrawn so 15 will go around in the famous handicap this afternoon.

Following Lumosty, last seen running away at Flemington to take out the Listed The Straight Six (1200m) in emphatic fashion, in the updated Stradbroke Handicap betting markets at Ladbrokes are just two other hopes under $10.

At $6.50 is the aforementioned Charlie Boy, Peter & Paul Snowden’s Myboycharlie four-year-old coming off a second to Boban in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) at the same track and distance from May 23.

Then at $9 is a notable market drifter in Black Heart Bart, the WA raider coming off a The Goodwood fourth in Adelaide and originally paying just $6.50 for the Straddie win but easing with the wide barrier 17 draw.

Also easing out in the markets are the likes of the Waller’s in-form three-year-old Delectation ($8.50 out to $10) who has just 52kg and Glen Boss riding, John O’Shea-trained Generalife ($8 out to $10) coming off a third in the 10,000 from a fortnight ago but with the outside alley to overcome here, Godolphin’s other hope Knoydart ($9.50 out to $12) who had problems with his knee in recent days, the Waller-trained Doomben 10,000 winner and today’s 58kg top weight Boban ($9 out to $14) in barrier eight, and upset BTC Cup winner Hot Snitzel ($14 out to $21).

There has been a tickle of money meanwhile for the Kiwi in the mix Sacred Star (413 into $12) drawn a treat in barrier five with Zac Purton in the saddle of the Tony Pike-trained Flying Spur five-year-old out to improve on a fifth in the Doomben 10,000, which followed back-to-back Group 1 wins back home during the summer.
