The Group 2 Waroa-Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) is the feature race at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday, with nine three-year-olds and up contesting the Perth race.

Six of the runners are coming via the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1200m) on October 25, including winner Elite Belle.

The Grant Williams-trained six-year-old mare won the 2014 Prince Of Wales ¾ of a length clear of Barakey in her first start of the season. She hasn’t finished outside the first two since December last year, winning the Listed La Trice Classic (1800m) first up this year before coming runner-up in the Group 3 Roma Cup (1200m) in May. She followed it up with back-to-back wins in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m) and Group 3 Hyperion Stakes (1600m) before four months off.

She’s a contender to win the 2014 Waroa-Lee Steere Stakes for sure.

There other horses coming via the Prince Of Wales include Ihtsahymn (7^th), Amorino (6^th), Kalahaar (8^th), Platinum Rocker (5^th), and Magnifisio (4^th).

Fred Kersley’s Ihtsahymn won the Listed Melvista Stakes (2200m) back in March before finishing runner-up in the Group 2 W.A.T.C. Derby (2400m). After six months off he was dead last in the Birthday Stakes and didn’t do much better next time out in the Prince Of Wales. Perhaps a jump from barrier two will help the gelding return to the winners circle.

Grant Williams is also running Amorino, who enjoyed five wins from six starts between January and March, including the Listed Grandstand Cup (1500m). He will get the outside run after drawing barrier nine with Paul Harvey in the saddle.

Magnifisio is in-form following six consecutive wins from December last year straight through to May. The Jim P Taylor-trained mare has won half of her 20 career starts, placing in a further six. She just missed out on a placing by less than ½ a length her last two times out in both the Listed Beaufine Stakes (1000m) and Price of Wales.

Fuchisa Bandana is the only other last start winner on the field besides Elite Belle, after taking out the Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1400m) on October 18 which followed a win in the Listed Birthday Stakes (1200m).

The Darren Mcauliffe-trained four-year-old mare will jump from midfield in barrier nine and carry just 57kg, two kilos less than half of the field.
