A field of 11 classy fillies are set to contest the 2014 Thousand Guineas this Saturday at Caulfield Racecourse.

The Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) is the featured fillies-only race of Guineas Day, with plenty of talented girls to put your money on.

Lumosty opened the betting market at odds of $5.50 with Ladbrokes.com.au but the market mover has already shortened to $4.20 favourite.

Punters are obviously impressed with the recent form of Robert Smerdon’s three-year-old, who delivered a fantastic nine-length maiden victory at Sale Racecourse last Wednesday following a second in the Listed Cap D’Antibes (1100m) last month.

However, it remains a tough betting battle for the Group One Caulfield race, with three other single figure hopefuls contesting favouritism:

• #2 Go Indy Go ($5) – This filly opened the betting market as $4.20 favourite before lengthening to $5 this morning. Was in great form at the beginning of the year following a Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) win but recent form leaves much to be desired. Finished last during her first spring start in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) before taking a minor placing from the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m).
• #3 Afleet Esprit ($5) – will enjoy the rails run under Damien Oliver after drawing barrier one which has seen money come in for the three-year-old. In great form following three consecutive wins including the Cap D’Antibes and Guineas Prelude.
• #1 Bring Me The Maid ($6) – Peter Moody’s filly began her spring campaign with a win in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) before stumbling with a midfield Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m). She was favourite for the Guineas Prelude last month, but disappointed punters with a third-last finish. Jockey Luke Nolen is confident the filly has the ability to rebound if there is moisture on the track.

Don’t rule out the outside bets just yet though. There are some good runners offering lucrative double digit odds who could easily steal a win from the favourites, including Champagne Stakes runner-up Tahni Dancer ($16) who will jump from barrier five under Nicholas Hall.
